SOMEBODY at that dismantler place made a very expensive mistake. Mistake(?). Is carelessness the same as a mistake? I doubt it. I’m gonna call it bad management. Some “manager” at the “dismantler” told some newbie to wash the Mercedes engine, and of course do it just like they’ve been doing it for “years and years and we’ve never had a problem.” Yeah. The people receiving those engines have every reason to believe there is nothing particularly wrong with their “new/used” engine. They install it, change the oil, fire it up, watch it cough up a little nasty smoke, and they’re on their way. I’ll bet you 90% of engines washed at that place have similar damage and by the time people realize something is wrong it’s often too late. Had Alex not inspected his engine, he could have had some real consequences, maybe even collateral damage from ring breakage. Good on ya brother Alex! Good on the brokers who handled the issue like real professionals. Rock on.
