I bought an insanely wide Porsche 911 that I am dying to drive and that's because my 1999 Carrera has this a modified all aluminum 5.7 L LS1 Engine with about a 150 more horsepower, a ton more torque, and it weighs about the same as the six-cylinder that used to sit here. It's also much more reliable and cheaper to maintain, and it sounds like this: Can you guys think of any downsides to doing this swap? I can't. And my favorite part is that this LS1 doesn't overheat anymore. And that's because in the last episode, I found some aftermarket Pusher fans that were used as a Band-Aid fix for the factory puller fans not working after the Ls swap.

These fans couldn't flow enough air to keep the engine from overheating when at idle, and improper fan resistors were used, which wasn't doing this car any favors either. I I Eliminated the resistors and wired up the factory fans to come on using a temperature sensor that was already installed in the car. And just like that, we have an LS swapped 911 that can run all day without melting down I Just missed a gear. These buttons do absolutely nothing.

But now that this car is cooling off faster than the used car market, I'm ready to go. But first, we have to do our legit street car as a maintenance package. Yeah, the legit street cars maintenance package is definitely going to include an exhaust repair, but we're going to start off with an oil change. Let's see what we get out.

watch Just chunks of stuff come out. Chunks aren't coming out All right. This engine's good. We're we're We're going to boroscope it though to make sure.

But here we go here. we go. Okay, it's cold. I'm always expecting it to shoot out.

you know, but it it's really cold. All right. We definitely have some stuff. Nothing hard, but we got some goopy stuff I think a lot of this is just from condensation.

this thing not really having its oil change for probably a long time. Nothing like the smell of old LS oil in the morning. It actually does smell good. Like if it was socially acceptable I would consider this is a clog.

Yeah, all right. Well, we'll just wait now. All right, cleaning up this drain plug. There we go.

Yeah, it's good. It's good. It's good oil filter time. I Used a mobile one filter.

Okay. I've done that before. There we go. So beautiful.

Look at how perfect it is. Yeah, she's just dirty. it's been a while I think for this oil change I mean the the whole LS swap thing was done in like 2017 and then the thing would overheat ever since. I Think it's just been sitting around forever.

could have honestly been years I Don't know. No sparkly goodness coming out of the oil filter. This is where a lot of it would be. This is a good way to see what's going on with your oil.

So pouring out the oil filter oil onto a white piece Of paper you can see if you're going to get any sparkly goodness. And we got nothing. So we're good. Before we fill this stuff up with the good stuff stuff.
I Am going to do an engine oil flush. This was really much darker than I thought it would be. Typically you just run this with your old oil right before you do your oil change. You let it warm up for like 15 minutes.

But we're going to put some really cheap oil in here. I have a bunch of just miscellaneous oil laying around the shop like different weights and whatnot. It doesn't matter, we're going to use it as flush oil drain plug in and we have a cheap $4 oil filter going into too. Okay, oil filter is on before we lower this to fill it with oil.

Let's fix the exhaust issue. This had two bolts on this side rattle loose but the gasket still in there so some new hardware is in order. Not sure if this is going to quiet this car down at all, but we definitely don't want a leaking exhaust system right. Got to go through these.

Street Flow Mufflers or whatever they're called. So much better and we were missing only one on this side. Not too bad. This one sucked in a lot.

that was really loose. Hang on before we continue. I Got to let you guys know about a crazy deal on my website. Legit Street Cars.com I'm doing an early Black Friday blowout sale on everything on the site so everything is 20% off.

Everything on the site makes an excellent gift and I just want to say a big thanks to everybody who's about to order and everybody who has ordered.
It means the world to me that I can sponsor my own video with with my own website. It's taken a couple of years to get to this point. A ton of hard work and we fulfill everything in house. so Max will be shipping all of this stuff out and then depending on how many orders we get I might be coming in, my wife might be coming in.

It could be a family affair, but we all keep it here at legit Street quarters. I even put a little card in there with a note from myself. so I really really appreciate all of the orders and with that let's continue wrenching. All right! MS Oil engine flush going in so we're just going to use a whole bottle glug glug glug and and this stuff is really great.

It will loosen up sticky valves and Rings help out with loud lifters. And if you have a lot of carbon buildup it could really help with oil consumption. I have a bunch of oil that is laying around where there's like a quart left at the bottom. This is 520 I don't even remember what it's for but there going to use a few of these.

Nice to clean up the cabinet as well but with the engine flush you don't have to put new oil in and waste new oil. You can do it with the old oil. That's how it's meant to work. Oil is in.

we have to put our intake on which we're definitely going to have to figure something out here cuz we can't close the hood anyway. Mass A flow sensor plugged in, deciple meter ready. What do you think is going to be louder? the Caprice or this? guess down below. We're going to find out right now.

So we're going to be doing a cold start on the Caprice in the shop and it's right next to our 911 so this is an Apples to Apples comparison. Here we go all right that's just closed. It does sound a little quieter now that we fixed the exhaust. it makes sense but it needs a tune.

this idle stay steady. We can see what this really is There we go. Let's just say average is 90. All right let's try the Caprice.

This thing is loud. The Porsche got quieter though for sure. Cold start on the Caprice oh I'd say the Caprice is slightly louder, probably averaging like 95 to 100. Capri for the win I Am so curious to see what this LS 911 sounds like at wide open throttle.

We're going to find out like in this video although I can't go too crazy I don't have a tune but I'm going to stick a wide band in the back so we'll know we're safe. Probably should have done the Porsche first because we need this to run but we can start it back up all right. So this has to run for about 15 20 minutes. just enough to get the oil flush going.

Then we'll drain it and see what we have. Engine's warmed up. see what we got? All right, there is our clean engine oil. with like 20 minutes of runtime and the flush and we're looking really good.

There's no better feeling than knowing that like an unknown project car you just bought has a fresh oil change done by yourself whenever I buy a car. if they say the oil change was just done, I just do one anyway. I Just want to do it myself and we're going to give it a new oil filter as well. There we go.
Oil drains going back in. Let's fill this thing back up all right. This has been debated on the channel before, but I do fill my oil filters. Some people don't do that and I do let me know what you guys do good AMS Oil filter.

Going back in there we go nice. We're going back in with the good stuff. AMS Oil synthetic and I use AMS oil on all of my vehicles I've been using it for years. I Do believe it's the best engine oil out there anyway.

you guys know I Love my AMS oil and part of the legit street cars maintenance package is a can of the performance improver. So this is going to clean up our injectors, our combustion Chambers valves and whatnot I Just do this about once a year on all the cars oil change is done. Fuel system cleaner done. Let's keep going.

We're going to pull the spark plugs and do a compression test and a boroscope to see what's inside of this engine. I Know it's got a big cam, but we're going to find out if it has anything else like forged pistons, that would be amazing. although it probably doesn't have forged pistons. I don't I don't know, we're going to find out.

So while that's cooling off, let's do some stuff under the frunk like a new cabin filter which they had at the local auto parts store. Surprisingly, and that is under here. Look at this thing. Ew.

Gross. Can't have that new filter going in. all right, So that's on and it gets covered up by this. but we're going to hold off I'm putting that back because we need to just clean up a little bit of wiring here.

Let's turn our ignition key forward and what they've done here to activate the fans to work is they ran this wire to the factory harness, going to the Sound amp and then that branches off into the two relays. So this is the power source to click on the relay and this coolant temperature sensor provides the ground. Once it gets up to about 180. so this circuit gets completed and then you can see here that it is grounded to the vehicle right there.

We're going to put our meter lead here on the ground and then I would venture to say that the sound damp has a key on power source. Okay, so that's power right there. Let's turn off the key and that is a constant power. Yeah, that's a big one so that's not going to be the wire we tap into key back on.

Let's keep looking and we're just going to go down the line and test these wires so those do not have any power. No, No, Yes, no, How about new? Scott No, no no Okay, well there's no switched power source there so let's see what else we can find. Take this cover off. here's our master cylinder and our brake booster.
Okay, I couldn't find switched power under the hood, but we have about 8,000 fuses right here and this is Switched power. So right now the key is on, but if we turn the key off, it doesn't have anything. This is perfect. It's for some kind of telecommunications module or something like that, but the control side of a relay pulls like nothing like an amp or so so this will be totally fine and we get to use one of these.

Add ause little do hickeys which is really nice. no splicing so you just pull out the fuse, install it right there. So now this leg of the circuit is going to be protected just like it was from the factory. Then we're going to add another 7 and 1/2 imp fuse right next to it.

This is going to be the fuse that protects our new circuit and then you just plug this in like so and always do a little test fit to make sure your cover will click back on. We're in good shape here now. This is called a wire tap, not a huge fan. They can mess up the wiring on a car sometimes.

H They did a pretty good job here, but we're going to remove it and the factory wire. it, just cut through the insulation. It's not that bad, but some people squeeze these like crazy and it cuts the strands and the wiring. Since it's just the insulation that's cut, we can wrap this up with a piece of tape.

all right. And since this is under the hood here and not exposed to the elements, that's going to be fine. All right, let's cut this off and we can. Snak This wire through like so and we got to run it that way.

run it underneath some stuff so it's hidden behind the battery over the the rainbow. I Don't know. Then we'll strip it and we need to add a little bit of wiring as well. We'll put our two wires together forever and ever and slide over our little connector.

all right now. the solder is melting through those wires. Sometimes when you're using this, it'll oh there we go. See all the solder going through, but you'll still have that little dark gray section in the middle that's just staining from the solder.

It is all melted in there. This is done. Very good connection. I Found this cover right here.

It's held in by a few screws, some of which are very difficult to get to, but we just need to pry this open a little so we can feed our wire through. Just like that and now we can pull our wire in. Like so. there we go, Got a little excess There we go.

drip this end and they give you a butt connector to use so we will crimp this guy right now. Perfect. Plug it back in cover. Going back on.

I Ran that wire underneath everything so you can't even tell we did anything like cleaning either. We haven't, We haven't Yeah, that's that's not nice. So much better. Okay I can't leave it all dusty looking.

We just got to give it a quick wipe. Not going to get carried away though. We still got a lot of stuff to do before the drive, but come on, this just doesn't look good. This is actually a joy to clean up because this was a California Arizona car so it's just a little Dusty there's no corrosion on anything.
It's so nice. Can't tell you how much I hate working on cars from the Midwest or the North or anywhere where you know there's like weather outside of beautiful sunny days that looks much much better. Goodbye new cabin filter. All this gets hidden anyway and covers for everything.

We even have a cover for the battery as well. It ties these two together. Like so there we go. Everything's put back together under the frun.

hang on with all of this plastic. I Can't help myself. Amsell Mudslinger is awesome for making this look brand new. All right.

Had to do it. Oh that is totally mint and I put the spare in and yeah, it's totally flat. We need to fix that. I Used to do roadside assistance for Mercedes-Benz when I was a tech there one one week out of the month 24/7 I had a pager.

Yes, a pager and a 163 ml went through like three of them during the8 years that I did that. And you don't know how many times I would go out for a flat tire and their spare was totally flat as well. Luckily I took an air tank with me. Yeah, we should be good.

I Don't hear anything coming out and these little ones like this usually take about 60. PSI There we go. Perfect. All right.

fixed. Full service, baby. Full service. All right.

Just a little bit more wire. clean up. We wired up our fans in the last video and now we're going to make that look pretty. Put it in this corrugated sleeve.

put our solder joints in the sleeve as well. this looks so much better. and then I ran the right amount of length so we can run this right in between these. Factory tubes here.

Hydro Aluminum or aluminium Aluminium does sound really cool. it just it reminds me of Wolverine His claws aren't made of aluminium, but I think they say it in one of the scenes or something. What are his claws made of? It's like a made up material obviously. but I wonder if it sounds cooler than aluminium? What are Wolverine's claws made of? According to laser boost, Adamantium is famous.

Retractable claws are made adamantium. Yes, that does sound way cooler than aluminium. they're adenium. The fan wiring coming from inside of the car to our Factory fans is complete.

Next up we have spark plugs and I believe we're going to be able to access all of these from the bottom. It doesn't look too bad, kind of does that that one doesn't but I can at least kind of get my hand in here around them so we should be all right. All right, let's get this wire off nice and gentle. What do we got? Oh, we got TR sixs I Can already tell it's kind of like a boost nitrous plug like lowle boost, but some people just run them in Ls's anyway.

I would run a Tr5 all motor but that works. Most importantly, what kind of condition is this in? Wow, they didn't Hammer that one in there that was actually possibly torqued properly. Nice spark plug coming out a very nice oh wow these are beautiful. Look at how clean this is.
Perfect. Yeah, with plugs like this, we probably don't even need to replace them at all. Yeah, they must have like a few hundred miles on them if that. Now the question of do we have a built motor? I don't think we do, but we're going to boroscope in in the engine I Don't know why I'm doing Back to the Future Maybe because I just bought a hoverboard.

see over there the box I got a hoverboard. but anyway, what do we got inside of this cylinder? Uh, the Piston's up quite a bit. Little bit of carbon. upper left.

you can see that little dot there that's for orientation. Yeah, this is probably a stock piston. Let's look at another one all right. Pulled out this plug here and more of the same white porcelain not fed out at all.

All right, let's see what this cylinder looks like. Oh hello Mr valve. We got a valve slightly open there. looks good and here's our piston with a little carbon.

Definitely needs a little Italian tuneup. Oh look at that cylinder wall that looks pretty good. This Pistons up quite a bit as well. Overall: I'm really happy with this.

Looks great. No broken ring lands, we're good. It does look like we have a stock LS1 engine so this would be the aluminum 57 out of like an Fbody or a C5 Corvette or something like that phenomenal engine. It has the factory headbolts as well, which kind of indicates it's a stalker outside of this gigantic cam shaft.

but the cylinders look amazing. The spark plugs look great. Normally if this was like an abandoned car, I'd pull and replace all the spark plugs and Bor scope everything but I think we're going to be okay. This thing runs awesome, so let's put these back in and continue on before our very leisurely maen test voyage.

Spark plugs are back in and I Just got to point out that this engine does not have any leaks. It could definitely use a cleaning, but look at this. No oil, no nothing. Front covers bone dry and this is kind of cool to see.

You can see the little water pump adapter right there made of aluminum and then more of the Ls swap kit bracketry underneath here. Now don't mind the rust on the rotors, this will clean right up when we go for a test drive. but look at the brake pad and it's definitely worn down. The pads need to be replaced, the rotors seem to be okay though The Ridge isn't too bad here and and the 911 actually came with the new brake pads all the way around.

So we have the Hawks Street pads. but they probably didn't drive the car much since 2016 so they never installed them. But they are missing the brake pad sensors. so I have the sensors and a new fuel filter.

this says a GM fuel filter Waiting at the auto parts store and we need to get to the auto part store somehow so we might as well go for a Ma in test drive in the Ls swap 911. This is going to be it. All right? let's get these wheels on. Oh and check this out.
These wheels are so light. Seriously, look at how light this is like you can just toss them around. They they're very light and some of you guys had agreed in the comment section that these are like $10,000 wheels. So I guess that's what you get.

They are forged multi-piece wheels and I just went around and checked all the air pressure so we're good there. Let's get some bolts and these are some beefy wheel bolts. Look at this. very nice, probably expensive.

I have a bunch of extras as well. We'll definitely start these by hand. Torque these wheels of course got to be safe. Always torque your wheels the more you know now.

All right o oay oay o I'm taking you off cuz I don't know what you mean. What is Olay isn't that like women's shampoo or something? I don't know what it means. Why is it on this car? It can't be something like that, right? Why would they be repping women's shampoo on this car? guys? I'm going to probably date myself here, but what in the world does this mean? It's probably some new hip thing the kids are saying anyway. Olay you are now gone and now your remnants are almost gone too.

Out with the old and in with the new. There we go. Perfect. All right ladies and gentlemen, we are ready to go.

Clutch in. It doesn't really matter. There's no safety switch. it does that sometimes on the first start.

Just needs a tune. People just needs a tune and it likes to scare you. This sound so much better without the exhaust leaking. hello Caprice My loud brother from another mother oh this thing needs power steering.

Okay getting a workout here we go. Oil pressure is in bar so that's looking pretty good. We are low on fuel and the engine's cold so you know this will also be a good test of the fans and everything like that. But I think we're going to be okay.

This wouldn't get over like 180. GRE in the last video it is very loud. Clutch feels great though. good.

Second gear good. third gear good fourth gear. Guys, there were some people upset that this thing has an LS engine in it. It weighs the same as the six-cylinder that was in it and it has so much torque.

This is the best of all worlds. I mean come on. Ah I Love it. I Like an LS swap 996 that probably is worth like $115,000 as a normal stock car.

why not? I'm going to do it to a turbo car or anything fancy. Oh this is so cool. Okay, hang on, we're going to get gas. All right filling up the Porsche All right, what in the world is going on here? I Have never seen a sticker like this.

So we have Ron the research octane number and man which is minimum octane number. So you add those two together, divide it by two. Okay, so I know Ron is pretty high. The minimum octane of this car has got to be like 91.
What would we do without these magical devices? Uh, Ron is 109. Okay, average is out to 99. Okay I don't know. I'm just too excited to go for a ride guys.

but do the math. I would imagine the minimum octane is 91 on a car like this and then I know the octane rating is much higher in Europe So I guess if you mix those two together, it equals 93 I Don't know, but we're sticking 93 in it cuz we need all those LS ponies. Oh yeah. full tank of gas.

We are ready to go in reverse. There we go. Jeez, you got to be kidding me guys. this car is cool.

It handles so well. Oh, drive straight as an arrow. Oh man, this is a nice car guys. $27,000 I There was a little mixed reviews on whether I got a good deal or a bad deal.

Some of you guys said this was a phenomenal deal. The car is worth 50. Some of you guys said the car is worth like 5 grand which is ridiculous I think it was a good deal I'm happy so far. I'm definitely happy.

All right. Hang on before we go, have a little bit more fun! I Want to hook up a temporary wide band? Just make sure the air fuel is pretty close just in case it goes lean. It's naturally aspirated so it's kind of hard to break anything I mean you could still do it, but I have this nice portable setup and we can just attach to the tailpipe all right now. hopefully the cigarette lighter Works Cuz that's how we get power for this.

Yeah, you know you're old when you're calling it a cigarette lighter cuz they don't call that anymore. They call it a 12volt power source or something. Now cars don't actually have cigarette lighters anymore. Cigarettes are bad.

Oh, we got a red light. Yes, it's going to work heating up right now. Here's our temporary wiring job just taped to the side of the car. and then we have our gauge.

and I'm really, actually surprised that there aren't any gauges in this car. All of this work widebody stuff, all this crazy interior, no gauges. Come on. Now there we go.

Oh that's great. Woo! that's perfect. Like lowish to Mid 12s I'll motor I'll take it. We're good.

We are good. This thing moves you like my gauge Mount This thing is so cool. it rips too. Gosh! I bet you there's at least like 50 wheel horsepower on the table from it simply not being tuned I Like it guys I like it now I Know some of you guys didn't like the color I Don't think it's that bad I wouldn't have picked this color, but whatever.

This car is awesome. Oh it rips. Oh my gosh, it rips right to that legal speed limit like immediately. Woo! Oh and look at this.

look at that cooling temperature. It is perfect. Oh I am happy with my purchase I Love it! Oh man, that torque is instant I Drove one of these things with the Factory Motor Sam crack. Had a 99200 996 without the turbo.
just a normal Carrera it was weak guys. Wasn't nearly as fun and man I know these things handle good from the factory. but with this suspension. oh man, it's like butter.

except that that tune is not like butter. it likes to. Surge According to the ad a couple years ago this thing was Street tune but it was never put on a dyo and man they just really need to work on that idle. We'll get it.

we'll get it. sounds so good. Woo! We got a I got a bridge. So much fun! Oh man, 27 Grand and you're driving this car.

Are you kidding me? You know what's crazy. Also, this car is almost 25 years old. I mean I know it's got the wide body so it doesn't look anything like it looked when it was stock. but like that's so weird to me.

Oh I can't get enough people I cannot get enough. Oh and then it surges and dies sometimes. Oh, it's manual. It's okay.

Simmer down there boy. Simmer now. Oh I Miss driving a manual transmission LS car with a big cam. My Turbo Trans Am used to be a manual transmission with a gigantic cam.

It was so much fun. It had nitrous too. I Remember I had to drive like 20 mil to get my nitrous bottle filled sometimes. By the time I made it home It was empty already.

it was all on the highway. That was a young lad. I'm still basically doing what I used to do I'm like the same person, just a little older. Oh, it handles so well.

Fourth gear: buttery, smooth, all right. Let's see we have fifth. Yeah, we got fifth gear real nice and sixth gear perfect. Trans is good.

The windows work straight as an arrow. It's bouncy, but man does it handle so well it's in instant. Oh my gosh, this would be an amazing track car as a lot of Porsches are I don't now I'm starting to say Porsche every once in a while like not on purpose huh? Am I changing to a real Porsche guy? No, not yet. One thing I've learned is there are a lot of Porsche purists and they get very angry about stuff I've seen it in my comment section and then when I was researching the Ls swapped 996s in General on the forums I mean people are so brutal this one guy new thank you to the LS I would take my 7600 RPM Red Line and music to my ears over that any day I'm like come on now, these regular 996s are so cheap, why not rip that engine out again? I Wouldn't do it to an all-wheel drive turbo car though.

No way. I want one of those? By the way, Yeah, the no power steering is kind of rough I want power steering That's way more legit street cars. and AC it's got No. AC These fake buttons are the best guys.

It's like they didn't even cut the tabs off there or like. I I Don't know what they were going for here, but it's got fake buttons. Other than that, the steering wheel's kind of cool. like I guess I mean it's got the Porsche symbol in the middle like it's not just some aftermarket thing of whatever cheap brand steering wheel this is.
Look at that beautiful, beautiful, coolant temperature right there. Amazing. Oh my gosh, you just like you feel like you're in the driver seat of a car like this. I Know that doesn't make any sense.

like you are the driver's seat, but like you just feel feel like you're completely in control. Like the feedback and everything, especially with no power steering. I Mean it's just it's raw people. It's raw.

And this is what a lot of people are starting to miss with some of the newer cars, which is why a lot of the older cars are going up in value. This is cool. Seriously cool. I mean I Can't tell you how well this handles just instance.

Just point and it just goes all right. Let's go. Uh, let's go pick up some parts. You guys see this pickup truck that's like crab walking away.

Look at, look at that. That thing is highly damaged. So I'm in the parking lot of the Part store and check this out. Nothing? No, Come on baby.

I Don't think it's the battery I Think this starter is just getting baked with the exhaust pipe right there. There's one right underneath it and if you turn the engine off and let it kind of heat soak, it's over. Oh, this really stinks. Yeah.

I Think the starter is just completely overheated on this car. Sometimes you can kind of plow through that if you have one of those jump packs that'll give out like 15 volts or whatever. that'll do it like maybe once or twice. But of course on this maiden voyage I Didn't bring anything I was so confident in the 911.

I didn't bring any tools at all. Well, after sitting in the parking lot waiting for my starter to cool off, I took some cool B-roll of the Ls 911 and since it was getting late, I also filmed an outro to this video that ended up sounding like this. So obviously I had some audio issues here, but basically this is me saying I don't know how long it's going to take for the starter to cool off and to tune in into the next video that comes out in a couple of days as I'll kick it off with hopefully getting out of this parking lot and then building a crazy exhaust system that will not only sound better but also fix the starter issue in that episode. I Also meet a fellow Porsche owner that's literally driving around with the head of a deer in the back of his 944 so you definitely won't want to miss that one.

As always, hit that like button, Share the video with your friends, subscribe to the channel, and most importantly, have a fantastic day! I'll see all of you in the next video I Am dying. What did I say? Um I Already said that? Um uh uh uh uh yeah I Don't see any sparkly I don't see any I don't see any sparkly goodness here. so we should be all right. Yeah, no, we're We're going to pull out the spark plugs.

I So the oil pressure is in bar so that looks pretty good. We are running low on fuel so we'll get oil pressure is looking good that is. but whatever. this car is awesome wo okay, let try that again.
