38yrs old and how I see it. Don't buy a luxury vehicle to transform it into a basic every day vehicle. That's like buying a flat screen then turning it into a 1991 box tube TV 🤯😳🤯😳🤯. I drive a 2011 dts luxury version. I have the replacement air shocks and struts. I wasn't going to put the conversion on my dts. My h3 comes with regular shocks. So I replace those with 5100 bilsteins shocks. 🎉🎉🎉. Point is; we/you/they/them etc; paid big money for a luxury ride. So replace parts with the same if not better replacement parts. My only issues now is. Needing a lift to do the caddy shocks myself 😢😢😢😢. My H3 sits up high. With a 3ton jack and time. I've never needed a lift. But the caddy sadly sits low! I have to pay a mom and pop shop to do it for me. Which I'm fine with. Basically I'll be paying for labor.

The main difference between older vehicles from GM and Mercedes is all the rusty parts on the underside of a GM vehicle. Holy crap.

I gotta say it here, NEVER REPLACE AIR SUSPENSION WITH COIL SPRINGS UNLESS ITS A TRACK CAR, the only reason one would replace air suspension with coil springs is because it’s the cheap way out, but, in doing that, you’ve removed a feature from your car, so if you can’t afford to fix the air suspension, you can’t afford the car, sell it to someone else rather than ruin it by ripping out the air suspension. This is especially true if it’s a special version of the car, such as an AMG or jaguar R and such, because then it just leaves even less stock ones left.

Why not get Factory parts and do the work yourself. Aftermarket struts? Gross.

Doh! Took the E55 for a blast to get gas last night and heard a whoosh and then a big red ‘car too low’ warning. Luckily I was a couple of blocks from the house and as able to get it home and a jack under it to keep the suspension from sitting on the tire. I am looking at options from rebuilding the stock ones as a pair for $600 round trip shipping to a full BC Racing adjustable coil over conversion and non-airmatic lower control arms for around $1300. Arnott coilover kit is a little more but is not adjustable but does include bypass module. I have not been able to see what an Arnott conversion ride height to see if it is any better than Strutmasters. I don’t really need the adjustments the BC offers and don’t really want to have to look for someone to code out the system but I don’t want my E55 sitting like an F150 either. I’m going to end up spending $1200-$1600 no matter what so I just have to decide which way to go. Anyone know how the Arnott kit looks after settling?
