In this video I show you what exactly happens when a Chevy volt not only runs out of its electric range but also runs out of its gasoline backup. Will it damage the battery? Is there a battery reserve? What should you do? Find out here!

Just a word of caution. My 2013 Volt stopped shut off on the freeway with no warning at 70 mles per hour . Almost crashed. . Took it to dealer to repair The diagnose was 2 cells were bad on the main battery. Cost for a battery $26000 plus labor to install and replace the coolant to battery total $29000. I donated the car as it was over double what I paid for the car. You can but hard to find used Volt battery but with no guarantees for about $7000. However you stil have to install for another $3000. So long story short $10000 with no guarantees. Get rid of the Volt beofre you get stuck with a loss as I have. Pass this info to friends.
Your on L
I love cake. I also use a Volt as my daily driver and have 2 other cars. A modified 2003 350Z that I use on weekends and a 1997 Landcruiser that I take on "Overlanding" trips.
How far would it go if NOT in sport mode and seat heater not on?
You have Turtle Mode.. just like a Leaf.
I just bought a 2012 Volt because I need a gas sipping commuter for work. I have a Yukon XL the guzzles gas and a Harley Road King. Iโm loving this thing so far! It has 202,000, but weโll maintained; I ordered some cool new wheels and tires for it. ๐
Why the hell are you driving it in low? Makes no sense because your killing the engine. Yeah half the power in low gear…..what the hell are you doing?
I have a 2012 volt and I noticed when you did the test of running it out of
Power ang gas you were in sport mode, does it work the same in normal and mountain mode?
Got a built jeep rubicon what is a trailer queen and a 2012 volt i daily to work and pick up the kids…. after 130k miles i finally have decreased battery range but the gas engine is so efficient I keep running it and am not worried about the battery…… I see no reason not to have a daily electric. Heck, I changed my brake pads at 11 years and 110k miles because I felt they were just too old…..
Awesome video thanks, do you by any chance know where the fuse for " under the hood remote battery terminal " is ? I blew it today by trying to give a jump to another car, now reads 0 volts. Thanks
I got a 1992 toyota celica gt convertible that I enjoy revving and my 13 volt which is giving me 23miles electric
anyone know how much more on the gen 2?
my 2014 Volt got an OnStar message that stated "charging has been interrupted" – I believe this has something to do with the disabling of the OnStar 2G connection – (too bad us US Volt users weren't offered the 4G upgrade the Canadians were offered) – anyway, after that message my car only charges to 24 miles electric – before that it would charge to 34/35 miles…….thoughts?
