I bought 2006 E320 cdi with 79000 miles for £1100 and It’s my daily. The comfort is the same as my 2017 E220D premium plus. That cost £24000 . I just serviced it and the engine is like new.
Hopefully engine oils still around when it comes time for you son to change it
