Hey guys welcome back to legit street cars and welcome to another free e30 video. If you guys haven't seen the reveal, i will link it down below, but i was given this a free, 1989 325. I that doesn't run doesn't have any breaks, needs. Who knows what else and uh my goal in this video is to get it started? That's it.

I just want to get this thing started well and then, if we get it started, i might fix the brakes and then it, but that's it. That's it once the brakes are fixed, that's the video and then, if i get the brakes fixed, we might give it its first wash because it's really really dirty and i want to see if this thing will sparkle, but then that's it that we're done. The video is done we're moving on to another video unless it's running really well and the brakes work really well, then i'm going to drive it to my shop, but then at that point seriously done i can't fit any more into one video we're moving on. So with that, let's try and get this guy started all right.

We're kicking this off with why my comment section is the best automotive youtube channel comment section in the entire world, and that is because of comments like this one, liam jerkins, you are awesome and there was like 50 other people. That said, the same thing: at minute: 1250, it looks like the rocker in the top right corner of the screen popped. Some other people noticed an issue with the spring and stuff like that. Now it's been many days since i filmed that video and i haven't even watched minute 1250 or looked at this bmw at all, because you guys know i like doing this stuff for real live with you guys, so we're gon na look at this right now together And see what everybody was talking about and then see if we can discover the actual issue together.

So let's just go right around 1250. Where are we here? My fat thumb is in the way there we go i'll just go to like right. There go ahead, keep going. I wan na watch this one seat again, you can see actually the the bottom of the valve there where it seats in the cylinder head and it's clean.

Oh there was that noise see. I missed it again. I i didn't even see. I didn't see it in the uh cylinder head and it's clean, oh right there.

Oh there was that noise right there guys this rocker just popped right back up, but guys we're right hold on check this out again. Let's watch this rocker in the cylinder head and it's clean yep right there. Oh there was that noise that rocker popped up that valve could be totally stuck. So how cool is that from one of my own videos, we've pretty much figured out the problem.

So, thank you guys again and if you're wondering how i was able to contain myself after watching that video clip and not immediately going out here to figure out what was wrong with it. It's because of this i said in the bmw reveal that i wasn't gon na mess with this at all. Until this was running, and now this is running and i'll link that video down below it was quite the emotional roller coaster ride. As you will see, if you watch those videos but anyway at this point now, i am free to dig into this bmw.
So let's get that valve cover off and if we have a stuck valve we can loosen up the carbon. That's sticking that valve and that should be it. We should be able to get this thing to run. You know, if that's all it needs, i don't know all right.

So i didn't really button. All of this up all together see these hose clamps even loose uh. So we could take this valve cover right back off when we got it over here. So we pushed this car back to my house because it was only a few blocks away.

So that's why it's not at legit three quarters. I figured if i can get this thing running and driving here, then i could save the money on the tow and i could just tow it with my lightning. If u-haul would rent me a trailer, but sometimes that doesn't always work out. You guys saw my lexus reveal.

You know that u-haul did not take kindly to renting me a trailer with an svt lightning because they didn't believe it was an f-150. It was really weird. Okay, it's about the easiest valve cover in the world. There we go all right, so i had to look back again, but i'm pretty sure it was this one.

I think okay, so i had to rewatch that again and i counted the head bolts and it's this one. This is the rocker arm. The phone was like right over here. It's possible that the valve there is stuck or sticking not all the time, but sometimes, and that could just simply be because of carbon and the fact that this was sitting for like nine years without running that the valve was in the closed position and the carbon.

Just kind of stuck to it and held it up so we're gon na get the boroscope see what we can see and then spray some intake valve cleaner in there, and that should break it up all right. I'm not sure if we're gon na be able to see all that much. This didn't have the best angle just the way the head is designed and whatnot, but yeah i mean this. This piston overall has a ton of carbon.

Look at that. That's some deep carbon right on the piston, so that would make sense that if this was up there by the valve, it would totally hang up that valve. Look at this. I got the valve open a little bit more, so you can kind of get an idea.

It's basically just black gooey carbon and that's what's sticking up this valve intermittently, it doesn't happen all the time, it's hard to focus and see this, but you can kind of get an idea just with the piston the amount of carbon that's on that piston. So this intake valve's not looking good, so we're going to go ahead and spray it. So this is the same stuff. I've used to clean up direct injected engines, so an intake valve cleaner.

A lot of products will work for this, but we're going to go ahead and spray this right inside. If i do this right because of where i have the valve right now, we can definitely get it on that one side of the valve. This is like a fogging spray too, and let's see here, it's been about a minute and it's still all fogged up in there. So hopefully this will just eat away at this valve a little bit just enough for us to get this thing running safely.
Without it sticking that's the goal here, then we're going to dump a bunch of seafoam in it if we can get it running to really clean this up. Okay, so right now i am underneath the car it's been in the crank. It's been about five minutes, so we've let that stuff kind of soak in there just want to see. If we're gon na get that poppy noise, it was intermittent, but every few revolutions we could get it to do it.

So if i can spin this around, like maybe 10 times without a popping noise, i'd, say we're good to go ahead and try and start it. Okay, all right. I've spun that around probably like 10 times. My left arm is feeling it um, but in the last video i think we'd only done it maybe two or three times, and it would happen quite often now we haven't gotten it to pop at all.

So i think just spraying. The intake valve cleaner in there was enough to break that up. It's enough, i think, to go ahead and try and get this engine started, and that's when we'll do most of the real cleaning uh with running it through the intake, manifold and - and we might see a bunch of smoke coming out of the tailpipe, which will be Fun so anyway, with that i'm gon na go ahead and put the plugs back together in the valve cover and we'll go ahead and crank and see what happens. Okay, i've got everything back together, uh we're going to go ahead and crank it up.

Are you serious? Are you kidding me this thing just fires up like nothing, this is insane. This cannot be right. You can hear a little bit of ticking. How did that fire? It didn't even like the fuel system didn't even have to prime, it did nothing well.

I guess we primed it in the last video trying to crank it a few times but wow. I wasn't expecting this at all. This is crazy. We could have just driven this here.

There were like four of us pushing this thing like four blocks away to my house. Get out of here. There's no smoke, there's no nothing! You know people had commented in that video that this is when bmw uh allowed their engineers to engineer their cars and not their accountants, or some saying like that, maybe they're right are these the good ones wow, give it a little throttle no way. I do hear a little bit of ticking, so i'm just gon na start feeding this thing pump.

Let's sea foam this thing - i don't know if you guys have ever seafoamed anything, but it is very satisfying, so we're going to run a liquid through the intake manifold. It's going to get sucked up in the engine. It's going to get all over those valves all over those pistons we're probably going to get like plumes of smoke out of the tailpipe and then we'll pull the plugs again and borescope it and see if it actually works before we start feeding this thing, seafoam and Probably smoking out my entire neighborhood. I just want to say that i just saved a ton of money on this project because i assumed the worst when the previous owner told me he heard loud engine noises.
I just thought that the valves had hit the pistons. The timing belt had broken i'd, be removing the head, sending it out and all that jazz, and sometimes you win some. You lose some because this v12 mercedes has been killing me. It's cost me a lot of money but knock on wood.

We are getting very, very lucky with this e30, thus far, so in the interest of saving money, i have to introduce today's video sponsor someone who's been with me, basically since the beginning of the channel, and that is of course nordvpn at this point. You've heard of a virtual private network, it secures your internet and encrypts your data, so no one can see it, but you, while nordvpn happens to be the best at this as they've been around for almost a decade, getting praised by all the big tech experts. But over the years they've grown to be so much more. The features are endless, but one of my favorite is content unblocking.

So you may not know this, but streaming services like netflix will block content depending on your location. So, for example, the office is nowhere to be found on netflix usa, but with nordvpn we can transport ourselves to one of their thousands of secure servers around the world in just seconds. So, in this case, we're gon na virtually transport to the united kingdom simply hit refresh, and here it is you're gon na be blown away at how many more shows and movies you can watch because of this feature, and i use it all the time and the Best part is, if you guys, go to nordvpn.com legit you're, going to get 73 percent off making this only 3.18 per month, and because nord loves me so much you're, also gon na get four months for free. So definitely, click on that link down below and a big thanks to nordvpn for continuing to support automotive content creators like myself now, let's go dump a bunch of fluids inside of this intake manifold and see what comes out of the tailpipe.

So this is the vacuum hose to the brake booster, which is the one i'd normally take off to feed in seafoam, but look at all these nice factory, bmw clamps. I can't mess with that. So i pulled this guy off of here. I think this is the idle air control motor, but if you do that, it doesn't really want to run check this out that just dies out pretty much right away unless you put together a little hose, funnel contraption watch this funnel intake, so we're gon na feed.

The seafoam in right through here it's gon na, get right into the intake manifold and get all over those valves. I can't wait to get this bmw out of the garage because it's kicked out the e55 station wagon. This thing's been sitting out here for a few days, not good, not good, so we are all ready. I have the garage door open.
It's gon na get smokey. I might have to move the lightning to back this guy out, so we'll get a feel for the brakes. Hopefully the e-brake works, but here we go. Let's start it up all right.

We're doing is slowly feeding this in a pretty good stream right. There oh check this out. Yes, it begins. Oh man, this is gon na, be smoky, we're almost done, and it's coming outside.

Okay, all right! Okay, we're done hang on so every time i see foam a car right. At the end, i like to dump a lot of it in not enough to hydra, lock it you're not gon na run into that issue, if you're revving it up and giving it a break every once in a while, and then that way i shut the engine Off immediately - and we have all that fluid all over the valves and the and the pistons we're gon na, let it soak in there for about 10 minutes and then i'm backing it up, and it is gon na smoke like you've, never seen before all right. Well, the brakes kind of work they go all the way to the ground, but it stopped the car engine's all warmed up. Oh yeah, oh yeah, let's clean it up all right, so it's been a few minutes.

I got my buddy in the car. Now give it some more revs. Is this stuff clearing up it's clearing up a little bit? Let's see if this sounds any different, it's got a little bit of a tick that might just be the injectors. These old injectors were a little loud.

I think this is better, though this has got to be cleaning up some valves. I can't wait to borrow scope it you know, eugene hold it at like 2500., it's a little higher all right! Well, i'm just gon na keep on doing this for a few minutes. Until this totally clears up uh in the meantime, i'm gon na try and figure out what's wrong with the brakes all right. So this is pretty much cleared up.

There's still a little bit of remnants there um, but i'm gon na pull it back in the garage right now and check this out. We go into drive yeah, it's got. A big delay going into gear could be low on trans fluid, i'm hoping that's all. It is otherwise we might have some transmission issues, but we'll know more once we can take this out for its maiden voyage.

I'm getting a brake lining light on, although just peeking through there the brakes are totally rusted up. The lining looks good. Sensors could be gone, but the brake fluid itself. It's a little low, not low enough, though, to indicate a big leak.

Now, if you guys saw the first video you know, the exhaust is pretty rusted. Look at these are pieces of rust coming out of the exhaust yeah, the smoke's pretty much cleared up so, let's shut it down and we'll borrow scope. Okay, everything is super hot, but i cannot wait. I must see what's going on here.

Hopefully, the camera survives, this journey to the inside of the engine looks really good all right here we go nice, not bad, at least right, where we got the camera in there. It's looking pretty clean in that area. It's definitely eating away at the carbon. I mean this is a very tall order, though this piston is really bad um, but this is kind of promising.
I wonder if we just kept seafoaming this daily, just even adding a few, taking all the plugs out, adding a few, letting it soak in there running it stuff like that, if we can get this pretty clean without having to disassemble anything so anyway, let's uh, let's Take a look at the valve and we move the engine around a little bit. There's the valve you can see where it seats is pretty clean. That's what's important. There is the piston from up top good cross hatching in the cylinder and yeah.

I think even just some normal driving getting some good fuel. In this thing it's got eight nine year old fuel, which i cannot believe how well it runs with that, but yeah getting some good fuel in here running some additives. We might be able to clean this up really nice next up. I want to figure out why our pedal is just easily slamming to the ground, and so, let's start off by checking the fluid brett, the previous owner.

I thought he said there was fluid on the ground, but it's been sitting here for a few days, don't see anything and i'm not sure if he added but uh it doesn't really look like we're low enough to not have brakes yeah i mean there's. Definitely some in there it's kind of hard to see, but it's at the minimum, so it should work it shouldn't be going down to the brakes. We could have a bad master cylinder unless there's a leak, i'm not seeing so all right. I'm gon na go ahead and pump up the brakes, see what i can see underneath the car go from there all right.

I got eugene in the car pumping the brakes right now. Normally, when you have a bad brake line or a leaking kelp or something it's coming out right away, i see a little spot right there or something all right. So i didn't see anything down there. It's just some water from the exhaust.

The master does seem to be working a little bit. At least it could have an internal leak still um, but i think it might be worth trying to bleed these brakes out all right guys. So that is one of the bleeders. I have put a wrench on there.

It's not moving we're gon na definitely have to heat that thing up, but i think the master is bad. Go ahead and pump the brakes. Oh wait a minute! Oh wait a minute. We have a brake leak.

Yes, that's so crazy! We haven't seen that until now, nice look at that. I was going to show you that this brake hose isn't doing anything and i think it's because the master cylinder is bad and all of a sudden, i think the master cylinder decided to create pressure this one time for the last 20 minutes. The master wasn't doing anything and now maybe we've uh loosened it up. The seals have resealed and we got a leak cool.
Let's go see what that is, so this leak is right by this thing that i noticed was hanging down not exactly sure what that is, but let's see all right give it another pump all right. It's definitely coming from a line. Okay, that's good! That's good! I do that, ah, that's it okay, so you got ta leak in line yeah. You can see here, they're all rusted up.

Okay, that stinks one more time. Yeah. I think it's this one or maybe the one above. It looks even worse hard to tell from this angle all right, so unfortunately we're kind of dead in the water here with the brakes.

I want to get this thing on the rack and do it right, and i don't have a rack here at home because my cl's still on it. So we got to get this two legit street quarters and for now i just want to check the transmission fluid. Okay, yeah, i could see there was a leak. It's bone dry, it's pretty low, it's not even registering on the dipstick, so i'm pretty sure this is old, school dextron.

Hopefully, this will fix that delay and engagement, and we have a good trans. Eugene's going to put it in the drive here. Go ahead, went right in hit the gas a little right, good, all right, cool, all right, it's time to give this thing its first wash. It's white, so it doesn't look too bad right now, but it's quite dirty and honestly.

I think it just needs a complete paint job. This is kind of a little rough. If we were gon na mint this out, we would paint it, but let's see what happens after a wash and then we're gon na take those seat covers off and get a really good look at the interior and, let's see no delay, no cool. Look at that.

All right here we go first wash in about a decade. This isn't uh. You know as satisfying as one of those ammo nyc videos. I must say i needed to let this sit inside of a warehouse for a few weeks to get it real nice and dirty yeah.

Okay kind of looks the same. Let me get some soap on this all right, so here we go. Here's our sponge line dirty clean, so i think, like the trunk might be okay. This is cleaning up, but on the hood i don't think there's much clear left you can see our fingerprints are still in the white, which means that it's just kind of soaking through so yeah.

This whole thing will probably need to be re-sprayed to be perfect again, but being a white car. It's definitely like a 10-footer, i'm sure in pictures it looks really nice, and here you have it the first wash of my 1989 e30 bmw and in white on camera. It can look okay, except for that spot of rust right there, but when you get up close, i don't know if this is coming out. It's really sunny, but if you get up close uh, basically, nothing washes off this paint.

Here are my finger marks or someone's finger marks and there's no clear coat the clear coat's gone, but it still looks okay, because it's white overall from a few feet away. It looks pretty sweet, but it definitely would need a paint job and some of the rust to be repaired uh for it to be perfect and something else that would look amazing if it was redone would be these gold bbs wheels. So the tires are from 2002. I love the look of these wheels on here so hopefully find some new 14s and this thing would look sweet, but something that i haven't done any work to at all, and that just looks amazing is the interior.
Every single door panel mint condition the seats. This is a strong word here, but mint condition there's nothing wrong with these seats. I don't know if they've ever been sat in. I don't know what the deal is, but they are absolutely perfect and it's not just the back.

The fronts have been covered with bmw, original wool seat covers, and i believe it's been since day. One look at this nowhere, nowhere whatsoever, i feel bad getting these seat covers off because i don't think they've ever been off and the headrest there we go. Wow, look at this bmw, genuine sheepskin. This is so cool made in the usa weird, but this actually doubles as a hat too.

So it's a real thing in 89, this was like a style and then after you were done for the night, you could protect your headrests with it. So, let's see here now we got ta take. This is like crazy. What you got ta do to get these off, and i'm doing this all for this video, like i want these back on, protecting these seats for the rest of time.

I just wanted to show you guys. Okay, that's enough here! Look just look at how new and nice these are. This is 1989 dust. We're inhaling right now, all right love it.

It's even got bmw on the inside. They didn't need to do that all right, so i didn't get to fix the brakes, but we still got it two legit street quarters. I called up a tow truck and they brought it right over and it was much easier since we had it running before. I was getting quoted a lot of money because it wasn't a run and drive, so we were able to at least drive it up on the tow truck and drive it off and into the shop.

So here it is - and here is where it's going it's getting. This rack right here, so we can start taking a look at what it needs in order in parts. So let's just go ahead and do that. Okay, so here we are under the e30 lots of spider, webs and uh.

It doesn't seem to be leaking too bad from the engine. This could be the sensor right there or the oil filter above it. So we'll definitely clean that up. We got to do an oil change.

Anyway, we had low transmission fluid. This pan might just be rotted out and seeping through the pan itself or the gasket no big deal. I was going to do a service anyway, so i'll check out the pan at that point, and this exhaust is not in the best of shape, although it sounds pretty good, it definitely needs to be replaced and, let's see if we can figure out where this brake Line is leaking, so this thing is falling down, i'm not really sure. What's going on, but yeah right here that line that's up against the body.
Basically, oh and this foam stuff yeah, that's what did it in this foam stuff was just retaining water and just rusted. The line out right there, so it's a shame because the rest of the lines look really nice for a midwest chicago car. I think it's spent its entire life here. These aren't bad and obviously this one fuel line's not in the best of shape, but look at this most of these are great.

We have the fuel filter right there, and then we can see where the subframe mounts to the body looks really solid. Overall, the floors, the unibody everything - looks really good, no holes in anything. We can see the factory frame rail with the factory seam sealer as well. So it doesn't look like this.

Car has been cut up. Ac compressor is missing the belt, so i'm gon na go ahead and assume there's an issue with that. No big deal but yeah overall i'm liking. It we'll have to do some exhaust clean up.

Some of these leaks fix the brake lines. Trans service, i think we'll be in pretty good shape, take a look at these rockers really good shape. Usually these older cars will start rusting out from the rockers, especially around here, and these look good. We do have some rust on the fender.

If we can find a cheap replacement, fender, that's really easy, or this is a great spot to cut it out and just put a new piece of metal in there. The worst part of this entire car is something that's very common on the e30, which is the rotted out battery tray. So that's where the battery sits in and that's all gon na need to be cut out if we were doing a complete restoration. So we'll we'll see we'll see how it goes at the body shop we'll see how much this is to cost to get done, but after looking at the rest of the car, it might be worth it because the rest of this is really solid.

Can't wait to get a new exhaust too, oh and check this out. It has bilstein shocks which i'm not 100 sure if they're original or not, but it has an r here. This is the left side and it looks very rolls-roycey and rolls-royce and bmw did have a partnership. I didn't think they had a partnership on brake dust shields back in the 80s, but let me know in the comments section and something else very interesting.

This has 410 rear gears. Eugene pointed out that this little tag will tell you what the gear ratio is. I know it's hard to see there, but it says 410 very peppy off the line. The rear diff cover has cooling fins built in keep in mind.

This is the automatic four-door version of this car like it doesn't need a rear, diff cooler at all, and it has an engine oil cooler right up here again. This was sold as the entry-level kind of base model. Why it has these coolers? I don't know other than the germans were just over building them back. Then all right guys that'll do it for this video.
So i think i hit most of the objectives. I don't even remember we got it started. We didn't fix the brakes, but we did get it here and we washed it and we fixed the transmission issue, which was just being low on fluid. So we overall kind of just got lucky in this video, but that doesn't mean we don't have our work cut out for us in the next couple episodes.

So this thing is going to get a bunch of mechanical repairs. I want it running and driving perfectly, and i know it's got it in it to be a really nice car, even though it does have 174 000 miles so anyway. I hope you guys join me for those videos and, if you liked this one give it a thumbs up, share the video subscribe if you're new and, most importantly, have an awesome day i'll catch all of you in the next one. You.

👉👉👉Help please: i own 2008 bmw x3 e83 2.0D 4×4 automatic with 145000 km (110000 miles) on the counter.A couple months back i started having issues with the rough idle.
After i would start the engine for the first 20-40 seconds rev's would go up and down with a bit of a white smoke from the exhaust.
I cleaned the injectors/new kit, new glow plugs with the new module….car is fully serviced, so no issues there.
Still when cold starting the engine i have rough idle for the 10-15 seconds (no smoke) and as well while driving form low speeds and when the revs come to around 1000-1100 rpm's looses power/hiccup…and when i pass those revs all is fine.
I checked old maf sensor and replaced with the new one just for the test, same happened…so i put back the old one.
Is it maybe the fuel pump or something else…PLEASE advice!!!

The previous owner: changed egr, dpf, cleaned turbo, intake manifold . I did a good service as well. Its not neglected car for sure.

I give you credit putting the MB V12 together. I am a great believer of MB cars. I now own a S320 1994. I enjoy driving this car. I prefer the older cars, because there are fewer computers. Good luck to you with your work. I hate to ask what it actually cost to finish this beast.

this is a common thing in barnfind cars…..often valve seats will not seal but if you can even get a couple cylinders to fire the movement frees up every other valve…..fun fact the rocker tappets are often offset on purpose by design…..when they push the valve down they also cause a slight spin rotation
