Some car brands claim their transmission fluid never needs to be changed. In this video, I work on a Mercedes Transmission that’s supposed to have “Lifetime” transmission fluid and show you why that’s total BS. I also make the transmission on my 2005 E320 CDI Shift faster and we tackle a really strange problem that you could be experiencing without even knowing it.

Check for these codes. If you are in limp home mode and stuck in 3rd, you probably have a bad conductor plate. Also, check the trans control module for fluid.
P0720 – Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0715 – Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Transmission Conductor Plate or 13-pin connector issue)
P0700 – Transmission Control System Malfunction (Generic Code telling you there is a gearbox problem)
P 0716 P0717 P0718 – Input / Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction / Range Performance / No Signal / Intermittent

    Curious to know.
Alex, it seems in your vid that your 2 line pressure solenoids are the brown top ones. And not the 2 blue top AMG ones. Surprised you didnt switch them over to the AMG blue top ones since part of your quest is to improve gear shifting speed.
The AMG blue tops are touted as to make shifting faster and harder.

I was always informed that ever since the 1980’s? That the Mercedes transmissions actually starts off in second gear from a dead stop & deftly shifts [down] into 1st. Once a bit up to speed (as through an intersection).

Hey thanks and I totally agree that lifetime transmission is BS. My 2006 Audi S4 V8 is now on 220k kms and I have replaced the transmission fluid recently so she FLIES. Thanks for your great information, much appreciated. Simon

Alright, so your ‘lil stiff shift when cold is probably (felt) only due to your thick, old oil. This is going to almost always be the case (other than clogged filter) when it’s a cold/hot temp issue, yes?
