In this video, I continue to disassembly the twin-turbo V12 engine from my CL65 AMG so we can start cleanings. I show you 2 at-home DIY methods of cleaning engine parts safely and then we take the parts to Fluid MotorUnion. They have a big machine I call the "vaporizer" and it makes parts look brand new. I also bought a really cool tumbler that makes cleaning bolts fun. Enjoy!

Oh, so you think the m275 is a pile of junk now way to kick him while he's down. Who do you think you are you have like 12 lights on the dash yeah? I know i said you were reliable in a video and you're lucky that people didn't watch to the end of the video for the full explanation, no yeah yeah. You still need work. I have to remove your subframe just to replace your turbos.

Ah you're such a typical n54. Don't worry! I'm gon na fix you right up. Buddy you're gon na spank, this 335, oh hey! What's up guys welcome back to legit street cars, i'm you know just out here: cleaning up and uh getting ready for this video uh. So welcome to the mess.

It might look like a lot to you, but i come out here every single day and i kind of scan the mess to remember where i left off. So hopefully it should go back together perfectly. The key word here is should so in this video we have a ton to do. I still have some disassembly on the m275 engine.

We have to remove the front cover. This is how you remove the front cover and we got to see what we can see in there, and then we have a ton of cleaning to do so. Take a look at this. This is one of the valve covers nasty.

It's grimy, it's gross. We have to clean this. We have to clean the front cover. We have to clean a bunch of parts, so i'm going to show you how i do it here at home and then we're taking it over to fluid motor union.

They have a machine called a vaporizer, or maybe they just call it a vaporizer. I don't know, but it vaporizes stuff and it makes engine parts and all sorts of other car parts look brand spanking new. So without further ado, let's get to work oh and check out this cheap jewelry tumbler that i bought we're going to use this to clean up all the bolts. Well, i think i haven't even tried it yet so not really sure if it works.

My all right, the front timing cover is off. This was pretty painless. Well, you know, with the engine out of the car would have been a big pain in the butt with the engine in the car um. But this will give us the opportunity to replace this seal here.

The front crankshaft seal as well and generally just kind of clean this thing up. It is pretty nasty. Speaking of things that are nasty, this had a leaking abc pump. It was leaking all over the place, as you guys probably remember so this oil, all this grime and stuff, is from the abc, fluid leaking out and collecting dirt everywhere.

So this has an upper bed plate, so this actually holds in the crankshaft. This is sealed with rtv, and i don't know if this has been done already, but it is still very, very flexible and pliable. So if this was cracking right off, even if it wasn't leaking, we may consider resealing it, but that is a big big job. Even with the engine out - and then this actually is one of the only mercedes of this era to have a replaceable oil pan gasket and again this is very, very flexible, so it very well could have been done, but this is a super thick gasket that rarely Leaks and then the lower oil pan gasket is rtv sealant i've seen these leak they're not too bad to do, though, even with the engine in the car.
So once all the parts come in i'll show you guys in the next video everything that i'm replacing and everything that i'm not replacing some things will surprise. You like, for example, the timing chain, i'm actually not going to replace that. I know you guys are going to flip on the comments right now, but wait until the next video. When i explain to you why, but something we will be replacing would be the guides.

As you can see, the guide is cracked, so the other ones look to be in good shape, but we're going to swap out all of the guides, and then this actually has rubber. These gears have rubber the crank one as well. We may replace those yeah. We might end up replacing these they're in decent condition, but while we're here, that's not a bad thing to replace, obviously we're resealing the whole front timing cover and, of course, i'll clean up the subframe, the oil pans everything before the engine gets put back together.

I may even spend a little bit of time here on the frame rails and areas under the hood that we're never going to see, but while it's all apart, we might as well give it a little clean. But for now i'm going to show you guys how i clean this stuff in the garage a couple of different methods before we go over to fluid motor union because we actually got to get there pretty soon to get all this done. So, let's bring a valve cover over to the parts washer and i'll show you method number one. So what i'm using is a very cheap parts washer and i don't have any running water out here.

This is a self-contained system. These are about a hundred and fifty dollars. You can get them at harbor freight amazon wherever they're all pretty much the same. You have a pump, there's a little filter inside of here and your switch, and it just circulates.

Whatever fluid you choose to run, which is probably the most important part of cleaning anything in a parts, washer is what are you using? So in my case, i'm using oil eater. This is a water-based degreaser, it's a 10 to 1 ratio with water, and it is okay. It is not the strongest. You have to use quite a bit of elbow grease, but it does eventually do a good job.

As you can see here, i've had it kind of running on here for a while, so it soaks in the grease and you can get it off with minimal effort. But if you want to get a little bit more extreme, you can use diesel fuel. Some guys use kerosene tractor supply has something that i definitely want to try. I think it's psc 1000 or something like that people swear by it.

So i'm going to give that a shot, but you do have to make sure that the pump you're using can handle chemicals like that. In this case they say not to use really any of that kind of stuff. So i might have to look in to a different pump, but for now this is what i have been using and if you get the larger brushes in here, you can really do a good job. Pretty quickly see that so not too bad, and this stuff is very gentle.
This is about as gentle of a fluid as you can use to clean parts. So anyway, i'm gon na put a little bit of elbow grease into this one and then we'll put it up next to the other one and i'll show you guys the difference. Okay. So after about 15 minutes of work, this is what we have.

So i was able to get into all of the nooks and crannies with the brushes. The oil eater did a pretty decent job of breaking up all the grease and grime, and i think this looks really really nice now another option and something i used to do before i bought this parts. Washer was brake, clean, so brake clean can get kind of expensive. It kind of stinks sort of bad for you, but this works really well.

This is a harsh chemical that cleans and degreases pretty much instantly, so you can do that. It adds up, though, as far as cost - and it gets to the point where you could have just bought. One of these i've also used a brush on a drill. I didn't use it in this case, but if areas are a little tight, something like this a brush would help out with big time.

I didn't need it this time, but a brush and a drill works. Well, you just don't want to get to a point where you're polishing the aluminum, because then it'll kind of look worse when you have little blotches of clean spots. So this is kind of a natural look right here and let's put it up against the most natural. Look which is what an engine looks like after 16 years, so you can see a big difference here, and some of this is just staining into the aluminum there's not much.

You can do about it. Unless you were to polish out the entire valve cover or get it painted or powder coated, but yeah grease and grime, nice and clean, you can probably eat off of this, although i don't recommend it. So you can clean a lot of parts like this, like the water pump, although i'll be replacing this so there's no point: you can clean up the intake manifold. Just make sure you remove any plastic and definitely all of the sensors.

It's easy to do with the part out and on a table, and you don't want to take any chances all right so before we head over to oj's shop to use the vaporizer on all of my v12 engine parts. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce today's video sponsor manscape, so you guys have seen me and a bunch of other automotive youtubers promote the perfect package 3.0. This is an all-in-one men's grooming kit that includes the lawnmower 3.0, a full body shaver. So this is a really cool kit that i know you guys would love, but manscape recently reached out to.

It's cars20 and that's manscaped.com and every purchase is going to go towards contributions to the testicular cancer society. So a big thanks to manscaped.
Now, let's load up these nasty v12 engine parts into my tesla and vaporize them all right. I have everything loaded up in the back of the tesla bagged up, so we don't dirty up the back of my daily driver, but this is a very, very usable car and check it out. I put a sub in it because it has the base stereo system, which is absolutely horrible. 125 000 car brand new and the guy doesn't spend.

I don't know a couple grand more for the stereo, but it's fake. I haven't even put the amp in yet the speaker is literally just laying there and i've had this stuff for probably three months. I don't ever have any time to work on. My daily driver comment down below what your daily driver is and what your project is.

That's sucking up all of your time, all right guys, so we are at fluid motor union. This is what i call the vaporizer, but i was mistaken. What do you call this thing? We call it vapor shine, vapor shock, so it's technically called the uh, the aqua blast by vixen um. It's a media blaster uses high pressure, water and air, and then your media, your choice.

In this case. It's going to be ceramic ball, bearings, really small ones. It cleans it treats the surface, it's also known as vapor honing, because of what it does to metal surfaces, it'll actually take them and round them instead of like just you know like sandblasting, it's abrasive it, but this actually doesn't remove media or deform it. It's supposed to keep it intact.

Basically, this thing's, a giant sandblasting cabinet with um seals to keep the water in right, uh, there's a basin down there, there's a tank in back. The media sits at the bottom and there's a giant like aggregate pump that mixes everything up it stirs it up. So that way the pump picks it back up and it's blasting that media, along with air into the piece. So not only do you have like high pressure water with the media, but then you have air assisting that make sure i'm sealed up the door shut, and so that's, okay, oh, are you kidding me dude, that is nice.

It's trying to blast the tape off so we'll probably get that area a little better yeah, but i just wanted to give a difference. You know it looks like it was painted silver like it's perfect. It leaves a nice i'd, say nicer than oem finish yeah, and what i like is that it's not polished, it's not like chrome. Now, you know it just looks natural.
It just looks factory so in theory, because this is a honing machine, the surface you're actually treating it. It's not just a you're, not just blasting it. It's pretty nice because it doesn't have the baffles that are internal in here and the problem with that is it'll. Catch some of the stuff in there so usually about to tape it over and we can't get the inside clean but uh.

If we don't have the media being blasted into there, we can get a nice polished. Finish get a lot of the old corrosion out of there so that way, uh you're, starting from brand new fresh, oh this is so satisfying. If i had one of these at home, my family would never see me. I would just be cleaning everything it does.

Take a little bit longer, though, than i thought like you need to go over an area a few times all right, so the valve cover is all done just giving it a final wipe here and it's honestly too nice, it's too nice. Now, i'm a little intimidated! I'm gon na have to put a crazy amount of effort into cleaning the block and the subframe now after the valve covers, are done and all of this stuff, the engine's gon na look practically new. This is amazing that is not painted. That is just the natural aluminum, so so cool honestly.

I think this is better than painting or even powder coating. I mean i like how you know powder coated parts, look especially if you're going for a different color, but if you're just gon na do a factory kind of natural, you know you're not going for a show car type of finish. This is the way to go and it's pretty affordable as well. So there are a few factors on how much this would cost to get done.

Some parts are a little bit more intricate and require areas to be taped off and protected. Some things are painted which take more time and effort to complete, but for this job right here everything you're looking at this is under 150 bucks. So maybe, like 125 130 - something like that considering if you brought this to a shop to get powder coated or painted that would cost way way more than that, and you know that you're gon na be getting the inside of things like the intake manifold perfectly clean And spotless, so if you have carbon buildup and stuff like that, it's gon na get vaporized. So unfortunately, i'm just gon na have time to show you guys.

The one valve cover today so make sure to follow me on instagram at legit streetcars and follow fluid motor union as well on instagram and on youtube. They're gon na have pictures of the final products as well and, of course, i'll leave all of their information linked down below. If you guys want to get your parts cleaned they're in naperville illinois or you can ship them stuff all right. So the guys here are going to clean everything else up in the next couple of days, and i just want to show you guys something real, quick.

A lot of you had this question in the last video. So this is the o-ring that failed and caused the oil leak, and many of you were wondering how this would cause an external oil leak and that's a very, very good question. So what i think happened is this kind of a combination of issues, so this seal here was probably not the best and there's not much room in this little area for oil to be so once this started leaking it kind of pressurized out and then leaked from This seal, but if this had not gone bad, then there wouldn't have been an oil leak to seep out of here in the first place, so kind of a combination. But the root cause was definitely the o-ring okay, we're back at home base and we are gon na finish this up with my new mini tumbler, so this is marketed for jewelry, but we're gon na use it for some bolts.
So i have all of my bolts. Labeled and i wan na try and find the nastiest ones yeah the oil valley and vacuum block bolts. So, as you can see, these are quite grimy and nasty. So i'm gon na put this one aside, so we can compare and i've just filled this with the oil eater.

I haven't diluted it at all, so we're going to dump all of our bolts in here and they give you a couple of extra parts. So you got a seal and a little belt just in case yours go bad. All right! We're gon na put this here all right, then we put the rod through. We close it up.

So this is nice and sealed - and i've never done this before, but i think this is how it works. So now we have a timer on whatever it's got: five different speeds. So let's see here all right cool. This is awesome.

This is so cool. Let's turn it up: oh that pauses it. Oh, we can see wow look at all that look at all of that dirt and oil. Let's crank it up all right, we're on max speed now max speed.

Oh look at that. It's going so fast. The bolts are all attached to the inside uh tube, the inside cylinder. There cool guys.

I don't care if it doesn't even clean the bolts. This is so much fun all right, so, let's slow it down. Okay, i think four speed. Four is the ticket here, oh and hang on.

Can we go the other way? This looks like an on off switch, but it doesn't really do anything. No it should it should. It does reverse it. Hang on wait was that the way it was going, yeah yeah whatever.

Oh it's doing that again, all right. It's been about 15 minutes of tumbling. So let's take a look here, looking pretty nasty in there, which is a good thing. Let's pop this little cap off see what we see you know what i need a uh.

I need a strainer that would really help all right, so we'll get a strainer later for now. Let's look at some bolts, nice, nice guys. This looks really good, especially because you can just throw everything in here and then just like walk away and do a bunch of other stuff, and this is using oil eaters. So if you use something a little bit more aggressive, this would clean up much quicker.
So there's a little before and after for you very cool so before the tumbler, i would simply use my little wire wheel here. Uh you could spray these off, obviously with brake clean as well. There's many different ways to clean a bolt, but i got ta say this: is my new favorite method of cleaning bolts? I mean the vaporizer does a pretty good job too, but this is awesome. This is something you guys can use at home um.

I got this on amazon for, like 65 bucks, not sponsored at all, i bought it with my own money. My buddy tasos actually sent me a video of him using this and he's a professional engine builder, and he uses this all day long. This thing is tumbling, tumbling, tumbling away, so very cool tool, i'll leave that and everything else you guys have seen in this video linked down below um. I forgot where i got this, but there is a similar one on amazon, it's probably identical.

To be honest with you um and then the oil eater good stuff, decent stuff, i'll link, you guys the tractor supply stuff that i'm going to try out and maybe i'll have it in the next video too, all right guys that will do it. For today's video. Now, there's going to be a little bit of delay with cl65 engine content, and that is because you guessed it parts, so i sent the cylinder heads out to get ported and polished about a week ago. So it's going to be at least another two weeks for those i'm still waiting on the larger turbos and downpipes from vrp.

But those should be here soon and then i keep on finding like little normal parts that i want to replace. While the engine is out - and so i'm ordering a lot of these parts and it's a v12, some of them take longer than normal to come in, but in the next video i plan on having pretty much all of the parts, if not all of them here. So we can start reassembling the engine so very excited for that one. I have some awesome content in between.

So do not worry, amg content, some other stuff. We got a lot going on here at legit streetcar. So with that being said, if you enjoyed this video hit, the thumbs up button share the video subscribe if you're new, you know the deal, and with that i hope you have an awesome day i'll catch all of you in the next video you.

Maybe an Ultra Sonic Cleaner to clean bolt's. I have cleaned parts and pieces by adding alchohol in a container and aggravating it with a massager. Same principle as an ultrasonic Cleaner. I have cleaned my wife's jewelry this way as well.

Dude if you have a dollar store near you ,use the spot and stain for carpet, in a red squirt bottle, it works amazing, won't discolor paint or aluminum, works great for grease, start car to warm it up, spray away! I would say it works better then engine degreaser, this stuff is killer to clean brake dust, and tires are clean, clean, clean, all for a buck. Please we try it, a dollar, you will not be disappointed, Alsome spot and stain remover, red spray bottle. Shot blast is what that dude was trying to say

For your tumbler, look up "stainless steel pins" or "stainless steel chips" – throw that in with some simple green or even Dawn dish soap (it really does take the grease away!) The SS pins/chips usually come in 5lb bags would should be plenty enough for your tumbler. Those little pins/chips will clean every tiny little crevice in your bolts/nuts and make them look brand new.
