One tow bill could cost upwards of 500 and look at this crusty old girl nasty it's starting to make it come off the crank too. Something always has to break in the middle of the project. All right cheers: hey guys, welcome back to legit street cars and welcome to another e55 amg wagon video, i'm so excited for this one, because we're gon na move forward with the whipple supercharger installation and i think, we're gon na get pretty far today with the install We might get this thing fired up and back on the road. At least that is the goal, so that's about as much of an intro as you guys need.

Let's get dirty all right so to kick this one off, i'm actually going to go ahead and replace a fully functional alternator. That is, if i can get this first bolt out without breaking it off in the block. Oh, these are always so hard all right. Well, i definitely wasn't planning on starting this video off with problems that could become major problems.

If we were to break that bolt off that wouldn't be fun, you could snap the ear off the front timing cover and then we'd be dead in the water. So anyway, i'm just pulling the alternator back. I already sprayed a little bit in there. Let's get a little bit more, let that it for a few minutes.

Penetrating oil didn't do it. So we got to introduce some fire. I looked around. There's nothing back there we're going to melt.

You really have to pay attention when you're using fire, because you know it's fire. Take your time with this guys, don't get a longer ratchet, don't risk it you'll regret it good chance. It's the original alternator! Let's see here, yep so give me the opportunity to clean up these threads. So why am i replacing this perfectly good alternator? You might be asking yourself right now and i'm going to be replacing a perfectly good water pump and tensioner.

Why? Why were you so stuck all right? There we go. This thing is rough, look at that just kind of rusted and corroded together, no good, here's, our new alternator and we're also replacing the water pump as well and a tensioner. These are all parts that, at the current moment, are still good may be wondering alex. Why are you replacing this stuff? That's crazy! That's a big waste of money.

Hear me out. I think this alternator was about 225 bucks. So was the water pump ish? I think i'm 500 deep for an alternator water pump and the tensioner all from fcpuro.com. Of course, i'll leave a link down below lifetime parts, replacement, warranty, don't know how they do it, but anyway, so i'm going to spend 500 to replace these parts that are original at 150 000 miles and that i know, will fail.

It's only a matter of time. Now this is a car that i want to be reliable. You want every car to be reliable, but i plan on using the wagon and taking it on trips and having fun with it. One tow bill could cost upwards of 500, depending on where you are.

Even a local tow could be a couple hundred dollars, so i'm gon na knock these out now, while i'm in there, because we have everything taken apart anyway and for 500. Now i have that peace of mind that these parts that will fail. It's not a question, are new. So that's kind of my logic here and if you have a car that you need to drive all the time and it's down for something else, you might want to consider doing the same thing so we're using all factory parts as well.
I'm a big fan of factory parts: i've had cheap rebuilt stuff from the local. Auto parts store fail time and time again so anyway, uh alternator is in i've, already cleaned up the bolt and tried threading it in, and it is all good if you broke down out of town and had to have a shop, do this for you and that Bolt was frozen, probably charge you another hour of labor just to get it unstuck, even though it might only take them 10 minutes like it did with me, or they might break the bolt off and snap your front timing cover, because they don't know what they're doing. I like working on my own car - that's for sure all right, so i'm not gon na fully bolt this in just yet. We need to get the water pump in first, because the other ear that the bolt slides through is part of the water pump um.

But before that, if you guys remembered in the last video, the coolant temperature sensor was stuck inside of this front timing cover, it was a total nightmare to remove. We had to kind of chisel it out. Eventually, we got it to go but, as you can imagine, there's a lot of corrosion in here that we need to clean up and so i'll do a few rounds with the wire brush and some brake clean and it'll. Go from.

Looking like this to looking like this and before we install our new sensor to reduce the risk of breaking it, let's go ahead and replace that tensioner, first and reinstall, our water pump all right with that done. Let's hope these bolts don't get stuck nope nice and easy on the tensioner. Thank you. Thank you.

Tensioner. I spoke too soon. I saw another bolt. Okay, all right we're good all right uh with the old one, and if you look at the back of the new one, it's shipped with this tool, which i should have like ten of these laying around.

But i can't find any um and you need this in order to access the other bolt the pulley gets in the way. So you have to use your ratchet to turn the tensioner install the tool, in this case, a drill bit uh to hold that that way you can get to both of the bolts and then we just reinstall in reverse order. Tighten this guy up by hand, click and click, and the tensioner is done before we install the new water pump. We need a water pump seal and this is just a rubber seal, so no gasket really to scrape off these are beautiful all right.

There we go just kind of push it all down, make sure it's flush, don't need to goop anything on here, just run the seal dry, no rtv or anything. You can see. There's a little indicator tab right there, and then you just want to look straight down and make sure it's not pushing out right. Now i'm just transferring all the bolts from the old one to the new one and on these water pumps there are many different style, bolts, different lengths, different heads.
As you can see, some of them are inverted torque. Some of them are regular, torques, don't just rip these out and throw them into a pile, because it'll take you forever to remember where they all go. This is going to save you a lot of time before we bolt that water pump on. We have to replace some very crunching wire loom.

This is all coming apart and it used to cover those wires right. There they're not supposed to be exposed, and here we are. I have some loom left over from the nitrous kit installation on my caprice, ppv. It's performance, cars, taking care of performance cars; actually this wagon, even before the whipple, is faster than the caprice.

Now i wasn't spraying nitrous on the caprice during that race, but after the whipple i i don't think it would matter much anyway. Here's our new wire loom. Let's get the water pump on all right so with all of our bolts installed already and our gasket nice and in place. Let's just slide this guy right on there.

We go and i'll go ahead and start some of these longer bolts and before we really start going nuts tighten everything down. I like to double check that the gasket is nice and flat and flush it's looking good. Then we can push the pump forward like that and i'm going to start every single bolt a few threads by hand before we get the electric ratchet on there all right everything tightened by hand. We can go gentle with the electric ratchet here.

We're definitely not going to tighten it with this, and once we have the bigger bolts, snug we'll do the same to little guys after those are nice and snug and something that has to seal. I like to use the torque wrench personally, all right so with the water pump fully installed. Now we can complete the installation of the new alternator and no, you don't have to take the water pump off to replace the alternator, even though the bolt slides right through it, you can snake this out, it's just a little harder click and another click. Clearly, i'm serious about preventative maintenance on my e55, but recently i decided to get serious about preventative maintenance on my lawn by using sunday and unlike maintaining an expensive euro car sunday is super easy, just type in your address and you'll get a customized lawn care plan.

In seconds and it all ships to your house for free, they give you everything you need, including a soil sample test kit that you send back in for an even more precise nutrient plan. Then you just screw your nutrient pouch onto your hose open, the valve and spray. It's just that easy and sunday uses ingredients that you can pronounce like molasses seaweed and soy protein to name a few. I look forward to getting these pouches in the mail there's something.
Oddly satisfying about feeding your lawn and so if you're anything like me, you simply just want to play with your cars. You don't want to have to become a grass nutrient expert, but you still want your lawn to look good and that's why i love sundae. They take all of the guesswork out, the results are guaranteed and if you still have questions you can speak with an expert lawn care advisor anytime. You want so long gone are the days of going to the store, trying to figure out what fertilizer to buy.

Then setting the settings and the big spreader that you have to store in your garage taking up valuable car space, you inevitably get these settings wrong. It spills all over the sidewalk, it's a big mess and who even remembers to do that every season anyway. I definitely don't know. I started my smart lawn plan just last year, so i've only done two treatments, but my grass is already looking much greener.

I'm looking like a pro, and this is all very affordable and it gets even better if you guys click on my link down below or go to getsunday.com legit and use coupon code. Legit 20 you're going to get 20 off your very own, smart lawn care. So a big thanks to sunday for keeping my grass green and for continuing to support automotive content creators like myself all right, alternator water pump, tensioner all new we're gon na have a new coolant sensor, new thermostat housing, pretty much all the accessories minus the power steering Pump and ac compressor will be replaced, and i want to do this pulley as well, because these guys can start squeaking on you, this one. You can do with everything still assembled.

It's really easy, but we're gon na knock it out now, because, while you're in there and look at this crusty old girl nasty that doesn't look good, it's not very amg, like all right we're going back in with this beauty right here, i'll install some new belts Too i got powder coated valve covers powder coated surge tanks, we're gon na paint. The air boxes think it's gon na be sweet, it spins i'm about to get into the blower, and we have a cam e63 showing up to the shop yeah. They don't normally sound. Like that, this is an m156 and it's got cams.

You can kind of hear it. What's up you made it. How are you doing good? It's good to see you what's up dude good thanks for having us yeah, of course, of course. So this is craig and rusty they're from modern masters auto in west virginia, and they happen to be in the chicagoland area and they're, like the only ones that have also done blower installs the whipple blower installed.

Yeah, we do the vrp uh new whipple superchargers um. We're a big fan of them. We heard you were doing it so talk to phil grab this c63 for you to check out and one to come help you out all right. So this is a little random, but we're gon na check out this m156.
E63. Uh. Later on towards the end of the video, when we get the wagon back on the road um, but i've never seen one of these with aftermarket camshafts, it also has flex fuel and long tube headers. So i'm gon na take this out for a spin and see what she's got right after we get done, wrenching all right.

So if you guys were around for the first e55 whipple video, then you saw me put the base plate on and the snout and we test fitted the intercooler. I had to do some grindage right there and right now, rusty is just sealing it up with some rtv and then we're going to bolt it back on. So we can actually install the blower this time. How many of these blowers have you guys done uh? This would be like number seven, i think, really any on a wagon yet or no, no first wagon yeah all right, hence why these guys are getting right to work like they heard.

I was doing this and they're like we want to see an e55 with a whipple supercharger. It's the whipple wagon yeah. This is gon na help out big time, because, literally out of all the whipples that have been installed on the m113k, you guys have done like 90 of them. Oh yeah, probably brp yeah right, so that is a professional beat of rtv.

There are fibers he's not finished. I've seen him better. You better, really laid on there nice and thin i'm getting out the micrometer craig was nice enough to bring me a low mileage bypass valve. I think this has like 50 000 miles off of his car because he deleted it um when you're going kind of like all out race.

With these, you usually delete these and he's got multiple, intercoolers and stuff. So anyway, we got a new one of those. We have a nice harness that isn't all crispy and brittle like the one on my car um and, at this point we're ready to seal these guys together, right, yeah, it's so pretty all right. We're sealed up really important.

You guys replace that donut seal. That's probably the number one leakage area on the m113k you'll get a check engine light and codes, you'll get a hiccup while driving all sorts of issues, and usually it's because of that all right. So right now craig is getting our base tune, sent over to the tuner, so victory road performance is going to be sending us a modified tune file for the e55 to run properly with the new whipple supercharger and the larger fuel injectors that we're going to be Installing and of course something always has to break in the middle of the project, you guys see this. The fuel dripping out of the little dampener valve, so this is actually a common part.

I should have ordered one while we were in there, but i forgot, and it's just dripping away. I never had this issue before, but i guess apparently moving this fuel rail around brought it out so uh. We got that on order from the dealer. It should be here tomorrow - and this is a very common failure point.
So if your car has a long crank, if you smell fuel, that's probably it all right, so we're bouncing around all over the place everybody's doing something right now, uh right now, i'm installing our new spark plugs. These are one step: colder, uh, ngk's, lfr7aix, you're, never gon na. Remember that i'll link it down below um, but one step colder on the m113k because we're running more boost - and you don't want to detonate - and i also don't know the maintenance history of these spark plugs so we're getting fresh ones in while, while we're in there Commenting with most of my videos all right guys, next up, we have to reseal the breather chambers on the valve covers. If you guys are getting a leak on the exhaust manifold, it could be the valve cover gaskets, or it could be this right here and we're just using our tv, but take a look at some of the artwork here.

I sent these out to get powder coated by my friends at wicked visions. Customs right here in illinois i'll leave a link down below they do wheels, they do engine parts, they do everything and they do it well, so i asked them to match the finish of the blower. They did it perfectly and they even polished out the amg. For me so really happy with these.

Now, if i get a little excessive with the rtv, because everything's black, no one will be able to tell so when you're doing these, normally, i would say less is more. More is more in this case. Do a nice fat bead because they will leak if you try to go really thin, so it doesn't look sloppy which i get it. I've been there in this case, you'll get a little oil leak.

If you really don't fill this cavity up, but if you don't want it to look bad, if you goop it up, just get your valve covers powder coated problem solved all right guys. This is the only time it's okay to be sloppy. I'm not proud of this, but it'll seal, and that's that's what we care about here. We don't want oil all over our headers, it's nasty.

I know it's horrible, all right, we'll clean it up a little bit. It's not going to end up looking like that! That's that's bad all right, we'll start off with these little screws, all right and the torque spec is basically nothing on these when it gives you any resistance, just pretty much call it a day, all right, cool, all right now, we'll just kind of wipe away the Excess and even from the factory, this stuff is gooping out all over the place. Are you judging me right now? I mean you can't really tell because it's black yeah, i know so. I noticed you're over here just kind of the paper.

I know you guys probably do a better job. Well, the colored valve covers red silver. We have to use q-tips to really get in there and clean it all up. Wow all right, but i mean this looks really nice you're doing a great job yeah thanks all right.

We have our new valve cover. Gasket installed the mating surface and zillander head is clean. Oh man, i cannot wait to see what this all looks like now that it's been powder coated and i get to see a little bit of the process over at wicked visions, customs. They do such an amazing job.
It's always so satisfying to see the powder being laid down, and this looks perfect and i accidentally dropped one of them and it didn't chip off at all. So that's the big difference between painting your valve cover and having it coated. Oh yeah, i'm definitely gon na. Have to detail this engine compartment after i'm done wow that looks good.

I can't wait to replace the headers too. We got mid lengths on this car. All right valve cover number two going on i'm gon na say. I think i might have to get some caps for these bolts.

I just they don't look that good now that these are painted, i'm thinking, maybe just some black plastic or aluminum caps for these top bolts that you can actually see. That's probably all you need next up, i'm swapping out the spark plug wires with this new set from fcp euro. So these wires can go bad and lead to a misfire, and then i usually just keep a few of the old ones since they're all good. At the moment, in the trunk, just in case um, but when you're doing these just realize that some of them are longer than others.

So this is the short one. Just pull it right off and you can see here that this is the short one. So just do these one at a time, so you don't mess that up and they just snap right back on real nice and easy all right. We just got in our other bank of spark plugs, so 16 spark plugs on this thing and only four had come in the one step colder plugs on time.

So i just got the other bank, i'm putting those in rusty's hooking up our spark plug wires. These guys are only here for two days and they want to see this thing on the road, so that means we have to be driving this car today, all right, so we got some more parts in mercedes came through with our little dampener, and you can see Here it has a seal, so this is not a fuel pressure regulator, it is a dampener, but who really cares in this case for us today? It's a part, that's leaking fuel and that's all we care about, and you can kind of see why this seal is just kind of flattened and it's just not sealing the fuel properly. You could just get an o-ring if you want, but for about 65 bucks i'd rather just get a new one in and call it a day all right, so we're just cleaning this up and i'm gon na use my mercedes sunroof grease. I use this on pretty much everything spark plug wires, fuel injector o-rings.

Now this i've had this little guy for like 15 years, maybe longer all right, then i'm replacing the clip not 100 necessary, but for a few dollars. Why not there? We go no more leak! Well, i hope - and now it's time for our 630 cc fuel injectors and these do require an adapter harness, which i will show you later when we get this rail back on. But injectors are very easy to do after you get your rail out, you're just going to pry off the clip pull up on the injector like that use your 15 to 20 year old, mercedes sunroof, grease lubricate. It a little put it back in reinstall, your clip and you're done.
You've just replaced a fuel injector. Now you just do it seven more times and that's it all right guys. The valve covers the spark plugs the coils are complete. I have laid down some factory supercharger gaskets, so we're going to be using for the whipple and then rusty has some dowel pins for us.

This is really cool some bolts with the heads cut off so that we can line up the supercharger really easily. So speaking of superchargers, you ready, oh, this is so light compared to the stock. Oh my gosh, the stock one's, probably you know double the weight all right, so let it rest on the radiator real, quick wow. These doll pins are sweet.

That helps a lot. That's beautiful, i did muscle this on in the last video and it was tough. It was tough to get the gaskets lined up and now they're they're, perfect yeah. You don't have to worry about it.

Yeah great tip cut some bolts in half for like 40 cents and you're good. Here we go here, we go. Oh, this looks so good. We're gon na leave these in so we can line up the runners the same way, real nice and easy.

I can't wait to fire it up all right cheers that was the weirdest thing. I've ever done working on a car with someone all right, you guys know i'm going to show you every step of the way. So this is what it looks like with the runners placed on all right. So right now, rusty is torquing.

The runners down to 40 newton meters and the runners the base plate the custom snout everything from vrp is the reason why we can run this large whipple supercharger and simply just bolt it on keep the factory fuel rail keep all the factory accessories. This kit has been in development for a long time, which is really cool, that they're still supporting such an old engine, and it goes to show you that the m113k is still relevant with today's crazy performance cars, because you can push like seven 750 horsepower a thousand. If you build the motor so very good engine and they also have these sweet secondary air injection block off plates, so i did this on my 03 e55 and with the factory catalytic converters, i was still able to pass emissions with no trickery whatsoever. So i'm hoping we'll see the same with this.

If not, they bolt on in like two seconds: it's no big deal, but this car is running the factory catalytic converters and i plan on keeping it that way, all right. So with the blower i'm going to go ahead and install our new temperature sensor. This was the pain in the butt part in the last video just push the sensor in put the clip on from the top like that. Next up, we have our new thermostat housing, new thermostat, new seal.
Everything comes as one unit all right, so, according to craig, the secondary air injection hose off the pump. You can literally just grab it and just pull it right out two hands two hands. This isn't normally how i work, but this is great here we go. Oh you're right, oh wait.

I broke it though you owe me a new one. You said it come on. Well, i'm keeping this in the trunk just in case just in case we don't pass emissions, but the last one did so we might be all right if you run in factory cats. Apparently it doesn't need that extra error from the secondary air injection pump.

I don't know great job mercedes. All right next up is our fuel rail sweet. This fits just like factory. This is great all right.

We're going to tighten these up by hand. I never use power tools when tightening up fuel rails ever in this case, we just want to make sure the injectors are seating properly, since this is our first time with these runners and new injectors, there we go and they look nice all right, fuel, rail and Injectors are installed. We got surge tanks next, all right, so we do have to fill this supercharger you're going to use all the oil that they give. You don't have a funnel small enough, so i'm just gon na take my time here.

Okay, get in a nice position, get comfortable. This takes a while. You really don't want to spill any. It needs the entire bottle.

I've spilled a little tiny bit seriously felt like ages. There we go all right, then you just have your little fill plug. It does have a rubber o-ring, so pay attention to that all right. Let's get our blower pulley on.

What's cool with the whipple, is it has a sight glass? So you can see the fluid level is perfectly right in the middle. So here's our 68 millimeter supercharger pulley and he has these in 62 and a half millimeter, also um, but i have a larger crank pulley. So i'm going with a larger one on the superchargers to keep boost in that 16 17. Psi range, something like that.

I don't want to go too crazy with this wagon, i'm not going for a max effort setup. I say that right after installing a whipple supercharger, but i just want to be safe. I don't want to blow my wagon up, so we're not going to go crazy. Eventually i get the long tube headers and then i'm pretty much done with this thing.

Oh and then i want to get e85 and then i probably should upgrade the cooling system a little bit more for the intercooler, so maybe bigger intercoolers and then i'm done. Then. I'm totally done: oh except the c63 muffler sound, pretty good, so i might get those oh and then i want to get a limited slip differential as well so yeah it never ends. So right now rusty is working on getting the surge tanks on which i'm going to show you what we have to do to get those on here in a moment and while he's doing that, i'm going to work on our pulleys and our belt wrap kit.
And this is a heavy duty tensioner right from whipple. This is going to look super cool on the front of the engine. Okay, so i have to bend the factory intercooler lines just a little bit, so i put a little piece of cardboard in here, so we don't scratch anything, i'm just going to tweak them slightly like that. Do anything too crazy here, all right! That should be good! All right so before we install the tensioner bracket, we have to tap three holes in the water pump and uh.

I forgot my tap set at home, so normally i would use an 8 by 125 tap, but we are gon na use an old supercharger bolt because it is the exact same thread and i officially recommend you just use a tap set. But if you're in a bind with aluminum, you can tap this with a bolt just make sure you're dead straight apply some pressure and it's going to cut right through that aluminum like butter. I've done this quite a few times a lot of times. With these water pumps, they're the same water pump for many different vehicles and some of the holes aren't tapped out for you, i've had to do this on quite a few mercedes and if you've got a bolt laying around that's clean, you can just use that.

So i did have to bend these up just a tad bit more having two people really helps with that, but now we're ready for this guy right here. It comes with three bolts, two longer ones that go on the side and one shorter one. That goes right through the middle next up, we're installing this pretty little piece, and i had to take the long bolt out of the thermostat housing to install a bolt that comes with the kit. So that goes there and it fits right over and it has a large bolt that we in all right next up we're installing this pulley.

Here we have a spacer that goes on the back side, that has the c-clip and then there's another spacer here and this guy. So it all fits in like this, and it gets threaded in right here and for now we're just gon na let this bracket hang down like that all right. So next up we're installing the vrp dual idler, and this is how it goes. You have two spacers on this bolt and then this is the factory spacer.

That's going to go up against the water pump. So then we just slide this whole thing together, like that, and i had to tap this out as well, so we had to tap a total of four holes on this new water pump kind of ridiculous. It's like come on mercedes, just tap them all. Some people are gon na use them all right there we go bolts coming through the other end, all right, so it's poked through the back, but we're not going to tighten it up all the way because we got to install our belt and then this guy is Going to go over like that, all right, so rusty's already installed the passenger side surge tank and we did get the bolt dress-up kit from vrp.

So those look the part and now we're going to install this one, and these are a total pain uh. So they come angled these couplers for the search tank uh. They did require just a little bit more modification in order to get that search tend to fit correctly. So what i do, if you can see, is i cut a kind of a recess in here.
This is the top side, and then i shave a little bit off the bottom just to make it a little bit shorter. It's very minimal um, and this allows the surge tank to kind of uh move and uh flex in the couple a little bit better um. You could probably really really force this in there uh, but just take a razor blade and trim this a little bit here and shorten this side, maybe an eighth of an inch. You should be good to go all right, so we have our new factory gasket here and he's just gon na slide the coupler around and we'll get the clamps on after we've installed our nice pretty surge tank.

Oh, yes, look at that all right, guys we're getting there right now we're working on this whipple heavy duty belt tensioner and we ran into an issue. They sent out a pulley for a 12 rib belt and it's hitting part of the belt tensioner. So for now we're just gon na have to remove this brace. This part is on order and then we'll just simply bolt the brace back on all right guys next up we're installing our secondary heat exchanger - and i did this on my 2003 e55.

So this is the exact same one from vrp and sits right in here. I had to remove the horn temporarily so we're going to relocate that. But for now rusty is running our hose and we did do a split cooling system or we're doing a split cooling system right now. I'll leave some of my earlier videos linked down below that kind of break this all down.

But basically the factory supercharger intercooler system is tied in with the engine cooling system, so the hot engine coolant gets into our intercooler and we don't want that. That's not good for performance, so right now we're splitting the two systems and we will actually be using a bmw reservoir for the intercooler reservoir. All right craig went on a parts run. Unfortunately, for now we have to run this really small mushroom filter, because i have to figure out the whole intake system.

I want to retain the factory boxes, but a little bit more thought goes into doing that and we don't have time to play around so anyway. This is speed density, there's no mass airflow sensor anyway, so we can run the filter right on throttle body and it should sound pretty cool all right, so rusty's got the routing down. He does these all the time. I honestly, i don't remember the routing and my other e55 had a tank right over there.

It had the split cooling, but it's a little bit different i'll link. You guys to uh my video down below and i have like a little diagram. Have you guys ever seen my diagram yeah so alex um? It was funny i want to tell you uh, a good friend of mine actually taught us how to do this. Originally um alex from legit street cars.
You can watch his videos on youtube. He puts a diagram up and everything and it showed you exactly how it's a phenomenal video. Let me tell you you told us three years ago how to do this and we're doing it all the time wait. Did you guys really get it from my video? We 100 got up here.

Oh no way, i thought you were kidding, phil send the link because phil was talking about. I was like. Oh that's, perfect. Somebody's already done it send me the link and phil sent me the link to you and that's where i first got to know.

You is from phil sending me that so, okay, it's helped out a lot. All the things you've done, it's even helping out guys that are doing it every day. I'm still sending people screenshots from that video that don't understand how the split cooling works and it helps them out. But it's funny i, after three years i i don't even remember off the top my head anymore, so this has all come full circle at this point, i've taught these guys and now they're re-teaching me how the split cooling works.

I don't know guys. This is so funny we're about to put the core support back on and i'm i'm going to put it on and they're like no, this has to come out. I'm like, oh, really and craig's, like that's from your video, like you showed us, you removed this bracket and now this bolts to the the secondary right right. It's all just escape me on youtube.

Yeah. You know like take some memory pills or something legit memory pills. I seriously do go back to my old videos, sometimes when i need to remember something it's a great resource. Let me tell you all guys: don't blame rusty on using the self tapper.

That's what i showed in my video too, there's nothing wrong with it. It's holding something that weighs like a half a pound or whatever anyway secondary heat exchanger is installed. This is where we're at with the blower it's coming together. That's for sure i was promised burnouts.

We need to get this going. Yeah we'll do burnouts. Don't worry! I want to see that i want to play around with that e63 too. That e63 what's faster uh! Well, since you like to be emissions friendly, i'm gon na say the e63 is gon na clean this one's clogged.

Are you serious? You think that thing is faster than this, that is one of the fastest n a cars like full weight. Car i've been in wow, okay, all right. We got the wrong coolant, so i have to go for a run. I'm taking this.

Oh man. I definitely want another m156 car in my life. Oh, this is nice all right. I got some coolant.

All right, alex what'd, you think of the car. Oh, it was cool. I mean i didn't really. I didn't really get to uh, get on it or anything all right, so craig just got done installing our tune and uh at this point we're ready to fire it up.

We put engine coolant in, we haven't filled the intercooler system just yet, but before we put the fans in and button everything up, we just want to double check that the belt and tensioner and all that good stuff is okay. So whenever you are ready all right, that's the first startup guys with the whipple, and this isn't permanent either. Don't worry! None of that is stained. I got ta figure out the intake system, see we got some oil burning off from doing the valve covers no big deal and all right.
One thing i noticed right off the bat is that that pulley needs to come out a little bit, go ahead and shut. It down craig so yeah. This pulley needs to come out. Otherwise we're going to destroy this belt, it's starting to make it come off the crank too, all right.

It's always something all right. So all we did was flip that pulley around we're going to see what happens. Yeah shut it down. No, no, no, it didn't work.

Okay and it's coming right off the crank all right, so we actually think it might have been these pulleys. This one in particular, was spaced out a little bit too much. So we just put the factory set back on see what happens. Go ahead.

Nope slid right off all right guys. It's like eight o'clock at night. We're still messing around here, lots of back and forth. So right now we're experimenting with the factory supercharger tensioner and we've added these little washers right here.

So right now, i'm gon na go ahead and reinstall this factory pulley here and this car does have an aftermarket, crank pulley, so that is kind of the wild card. Here so these guys have done a bunch of these kits with the same parts we're using, but they all had factory crank pulleys. I don't know if that's the issue, we also couldn't run that brace before because of the really wide tensioner pulley that could make the pulley that goes right here, kind of flex a little. So i don't know, let's just see what happens, let me show you guys a really cool tool that i've had for a long time and it's a little laser belt alignment tool.

So it's got ribs right here that fit into your pulley. So you get it right in the middle, and you can see here we spaced this out so now this is pretty much in the middle before it was out here somewhere all right. Let's see what the laser looks like on this pulley here right in the middle. Okay, we put a little washer in right there as well, so just a ton of trial and error here nice belt is staying on.

We fixed it all right all right. We did it after two and a half hours the belt is staying on. So we have the proper whipple heavy heavy-duty tensioner coming with the proper size pulley, but i think the main issue was we had to space out that bracket with those copper washers. That's what we found.

So if you guys are doing this, install try that out. If you're having belt issues, okay, the fan is going in definitely save this until you have all your belts lined up and not falling off, and our goal right now is to get this thing rolling and driving. So we go to lou malnati's pizzeria, the best pizza in the whole world, not sponsored lou. If you're watching, i don't know if lou's alive but lou malnati's pizzeria is a corporation.
If you're watching reach out all right. I love your pizza i'll eat it. On camera, too, all right no crunchy sounds yeah. How many guys does it take to put a 211 fan in two apparently after working for how many hours we've been out here, 10 ish there we go, we did it.

All right fan is in upper radiator. Support. Is in and we're putting in our bmw reservoir, so this is a vrp split cooling system and all this is is a bmw power steering reservoir, and this is now going to be the reservoir for the intercooler system. Look at that pretty blue collet all right! So we're bleeding out the intercooler system right now.

This can be kind of a pain. So, if you're running into an air pocket issue, you might have to pop this hose off in order to get the air out, give it a few key cycles to turn the pump on and off. If you have it hard wired like i do i'll leave a big e55 playlist down below honestly, because i explain all of this in a bunch of other videos, but we have a hard-wired pump so as soon as the key turns on the pump runs and it Just makes bleeding a lot easier. All right, bumper is going on people very exciting.

Ah, this looks so mean with the secondary heat exchanger in here love. It all right. It's 10 o'clock at night and we just got done buttoning everything up so fender liners are in wheels, are installed. Everything under the hood is complete.

Looking pretty it's running good, the belt's staying on and uh we got ta go find a place to go out to dinner. Hey you guys, ready for dinner, we're ready to go. Let's go. I have a whipple supercharged wagon, a whiffle wagon, all right guys.

It's the next morning we finished up at around midnight and it is time to go, drive the wagon and we're gon na be testing out two different trans control units. I'm really excited about those. One of them is supposed to mimic the transmission on an slr and we're gon na drive the e63. So let's get a cold start yeah, that's nice! Oh it just idled down just dialed down! Here we go.

You can't really tell too much that it's got cams they're, not super aggressive. You can just tell a little bit and this thing made 520 wheel horsepower. That's insane for a naturally aspirated v8 wagon cold start basically stock exhaust yeah sounds like a stock e55, except when you hit the gas, then it doesn't sound stuck that sounds so good. Oh, we drove it a little bit last night, but we wanted to kind of check everything over.

So we just put about 10 15 miles on it, and everything was great. So now we can, we can give it a little gas. I love this wagon. Oh, my gosh.

I've wanted one of these like forever. When i started at the dealer in 2003, and then they came out a couple years later, like one day i'll have an e-55 wagon. I never thought i'd have one with a whipple, though all right just so. You guys get an idea of what this sounds like just normally driving.
You definitely hear the supercharger. A lot of that has to do with the fact that we're just running that open cone on the throttle body. So once i get some actual tubes in there, it'll probably reduce that sound a little bit, but a wide open throttle man is that nice um. I cannot get enough.

This is way too much fun. It's a wagon all right guys we're making some mods on the road we're gon na swap out trans control units. We have two to pick from all right. If you guys watch a lot of my e55 content, then you know how slow these five-speed transmissions shift.

I've tried a bunch of different trans tunes and, ah the ones i've used. Don't really do all that much, but supposedly these units from tj mary make a big difference. We're gon na test them out right now, so one of them mimics how an slr transmission works and the other one has more of a dtm flavor. So i'm gon na try the slr one first and it's got agility mode and a mode.

That's gon na pop up, so we're gon na find out what that does too, so this doesn't have to be vin coated or anything it's just plug and play, so i'm not gon na fully install it. Yet i want to kind of see which one i like. First, so slr is installed. Let's do this all right.

Let's start this up and we'll click our little mode button. Here, oh look at that a for agility, so we have manual sport comfort, which starts in second and agility mode, which i guess is like a sport plus mode. If you will it's going to be firmer shifts it's kind of our race mode, i'm going to call it all right, let's see agility mode. I know these trans is really well and i can tell immediately that the shifts are much firmer, but nothing too harsh.

That's really nice, oh, the downshift is like immediate too. That's really cool. Oh yeah! These ships are so nice. I'm at like quarter throttle right now.

I just want to feel. Ah it's perfect. That's great. I really like that.

So i'm gon na have to do like another video on this whole transmission control unit thing, because you're supposed to drive these for about a hundred miles to make sure they're adapted properly um, and it's it's a little slick out right now. So i can't go too crazy with it, but i can tell right off the bat that the downshifts are quicker. The shifts are firmer um and it just feels very crisp and you could totally daily. I mean like i would just leave it in agility mode like the whole time.

So now, i'm in sport mode, sport mode is really nice too. Oh man guys all right. Let's go: try out the dtm unit, i'll give you my thoughts on that and then we're just gon na have to make a whole another video on that all right, so we're swapping over to the dtm unit. There we go! It's that easy.
This one almost feels like it's got a looser stall yeah like right off the line, it kind of brings the rpms up a lot quicker and the other one. I think i think, is a little tighter yeah i don't know, but the ships feel pretty much the same. Oh these ships are great man all right all right. That's enough with the trans units i'm gon na drive with each one of them for about a hundred miles.

That way, i can give you like my full review on them. Um, let's go drive the e63. I can't believe this is naturally aspirated. This is wicked.

55. 000 miles on this car, it's one of craig's customers. We got permission to go wide, open, throttle, don't worry and uh. He keeps it perfectly.

This car is just it's mint in here, and this thing has long tube, headers e85 bigger throttle bodies full exhaust and it has ported heads and cams. This is like one of the most modified m156 cars. I mean it's. The most modified m156 car.

I've ever been in 520 wheel horse all motor, that's like 620-ish crank. It's unbelievable one of the best. Naturally aspirated motors ever made not the most reliable in the early years, but you can make them reliable all right, guys we're done playing around with the wagon. It's starting to drizzle outside, so it's back in the garage, but i just want to say a big thanks to craig and rusty from modern masters.

Auto these guys are absolutely amazing and if you need any work done to your car, amg cars performance modifications, whatever uh they're on the east coast, i'll leave all their information down below. But cars get shipped in from all over the country for them to work on. So definitely check them out with that. I hope you guys enjoyed this video.

I know i did if you did give it a big thumbs up share the video subscribe if you're new and, most importantly, have an awesome day i'll catch all of you in the next one. You.

When running a supercharged engine which generates a lot of heat and exhaust gas make sure you run at least a 3" stainless steel mandrel bend system or twin system.
